Anthony Milford : Tue Sep 12, 2023 9:20 pm
There are whispers down under that Milford is being released by the Dolphins for him to take up a Super League contract with the Leopards. On his day he is a very good player, however he hasn’t done much for the last couple of years and was dropped a few weeks ago. In quite a few games you wouldn’t know he was on the field. Hopefully if it is true, Lammy can bring the best out of him again.

I have seen this mentioned on a couple of social media platforms today, and a totalrl report that the info is coming from “the mole” in Aus. I can see him being released by the Dolphins after an average season but the coming to Leigh may be the mole jumping the gun, as he often does, playing the averages.
If he does come, I’m confident that AL will be the best coach to get him buzzing again. At his best, he could be an excellent partner for LL.
It also feeds into the Ben Reynolds rumours.
For now I hope Ben can stay focused and be at his best, as he has most of this season.
Interesting one to await confirmation on for sure this one LNZ.

Yeh I hope so. Wayne Bennett said when he entered camp at start of season he wasn’t in the best of shape. He also questioned him whether he wanted to get better or just cruise through. He was in and out of team all year and when he was in he was too inconsistent. So for me he is a risk. The last thing we want is someone who doesn’t engage or fits in and bonds with the rest of the squad and creates unrest.

Totally agree LNZ. It would be a risk.
If this does happen though, I expect the kind of response that we have had from others in our team that were released by their teams. Lammy and co have made a habit of getting the best out of “past their best” or “only here for a meal ticket” players.
All ifs right now though.

Huge risk. But potentially the best player in Super League. If you're offloading some of your current liabilities (Hardaker etc) then maybe it's worth taking a punt on it.

Hardaker is going nowhere (he likes the leopard print too much). I like many others will have seen the highlights reel of Milford, and will have seen a player who likes to ghost through gaps, has shoulders made of teflon which defenders slide off.
What was missing was a kicking game and possibly distribution.
The main issues appear to be fitness, and attitude. Questions whether Leigh would want such a player, when they have a no d1ckhead policy.

Honestly I think the ideal foil for Lam would have been Tyrone May, but that ship has sailed.

I would have preferred Milford team mate Cody Nicorima. He has been playing well and can cover half back, full back and hooker. He has even played centre.

Have to say that you have named the player selection policy very well SS :)

I think our recruitment needs to be on the right edge. Whilst pretty solid defensively it has offered very little going forward. Improvement can be made in the half back on the right edge and also in a right edge forward. Frankie Halton may well be the answer as the right edge forward but i need to see more of him to be sure. We definitely need a right edge half back and a firing Anthony Milford would be scary as in that role. We have experience of resurrecting careers and he could be the answer. Already looking forward to next year.
