U19s : Sun Aug 12, 2018 9:47 pm
Went to my first u19s game this season over the weekend. Anyone else go? Louis Johnson played and looked a solid player.

To be honest I was quite impressed with a few of our guys. Results this season haven’t been great for the u19s, which based on Saturday alone I was surprised at.

Anyone else been watching them this year?

Haven’t they just changed the U19 coach?

Yes, I follow the U19' and also the U16's , attending a few matches during the year. I am no sure if there are many on here though that also watch them.

As you say, it's not been a great year for the U19's. One of the problems is the fact that we only have 6 players in the older age group and I am pretty sure we have only ever fielded a maximum of 5 of those together at any one time. Only one prop in there as well (Olmez). In addition, 5 of those players have been brought in from other SL Academy squads, only Robson has come through our Academy, so you get the impression that we have had to draft players in to form that older age group.

The future looks a lot brighter with the younger age groups though, we have had a very talented set of U16's this year, 9 of whom have signed contracts for next year. Four of them played for England Youth v France last month. In addition we have signed 3 more U16's from Leeds, Wigan and Hudds. Scholarship sides (all of whom played for England Youth this year). Then there is the current first year U19's, they are also pretty good and rather than being slowly introduced into the matches this year, have made up more than half of the team each week. Most people will be aware of Eribe Doro, but Jack Wright, Cole Oakley, Liam Brinksman - well pretty much all the 1st years are a really good group tbh.

Next year should show us a very competitive squad with some exciting talent coming through, but I wouldn't be surprised if other than Johnson, we don't retain any of the current 19 year olds.

Re: U19s : Mon Aug 13, 2018 9:10 am
Glad you enjoyed the game....it has been a difficult year. We are a very young side with only a few ‘3rd year’ players in our squad.

We have regularly had 7 or 8 ‘1st year’ lads in and it hasn’t been easy but you cannot fault the effort of them.

We have had a change of Head Coach midway through June...it is now Chris Rudd, for the remainder of the season, who as many of you will be aware has been at the club for 30 years.

We also have a lot of lads moving up from our current Under 16s for next season and coupled with the experience gained this year from the lads already there then hopefully next season will be rather exciting.

Our last home game of the year is this coming Saturday at home to Castleford Togets, kick off 12 noon at Victoria Park Stadium; it would be great to get a big crowd!!! We then finish in September with 3 away games.

Your support is greatly appreciated.

Dave

Clearly he has never done this in the past and thus has never deserved to be in a final, i suspect that the same scenario will occur tomorrow.

Considering the hype and fee payed for Johnson I thought we may have seen him in the 1st team this year. I suppose his length of contract is on both the clubs and his side.

I think the 4/5 top age lads have been fantastic , all the young lads getting the plaudits but they are raw in the first year of u19s and have made loads of mistakes over the season which must be hard for the older lads. Robson has been stand out for the whole season, doing the dirty work and coaching the younger lads in games, if Warrington don’t offer in something then an other SL team probably will

Genuine question - what has changed behind the scenes to make us feel more confident that these youngsters will progress to becoming quality first team players - instead of the usual loan->Rochdale. ~20 SL games->transfer->Championship.

So how does it work in u19s Guys? Is it a case of aged 17-19 only? Or are we allowed players over the age of 19? Real killer for this age group not having a proper reserve standard as we are potentially letting some real talent go. Liked the look of the prop olmez?, the loose forward and both halves, plus both hookers on Saturday.

Looking forward to the game this Saturday also Walter. Thanks Gents

You are not allowed any over age players in the Under 19s which is a problem when we don’t have a Reserve side!!! When it was Under 20s you were allowed 5 over age players.

Here is the link to my report from Saturday...

https://warringtonwolves.com/wire-u19s-defeat-

On Saturday we had 3 3rd years, 8 2nd years and 6 1st years so quite a young side although we have had as many as 9 1st years in the side at one point this season!!!

Hope you enjoy the game on Saturday and we can get another win; come and say hello!!! I am sat at the top next to where the game is videod!!!
