=#008000Why is it that the Aussie's have their markings and every 10m metre line numbered yet you rarely see it over here?
They had them in the early 80s!! We're so behind.
Before people say, "oh its because RL ground share with football" nonsense, please be aware that many NRL and lower league clubs also share with soccer and/or thugby.
Are UK groundsmen simply too lazy to add them?
Personally the pitch presentation adds to the match experience.
I also do not understand why clubs and the RFL have not capitalised on selling pitch advertising to raise revenue as you see in NRL games??
These days, coloured logos can be quickly washed out or painted over for other sports to use the same pitch.

Thing it Rugby league over there comes before soccer etc... So RL markings will get first priority. No way football clubs would allow for it to happen on their pitches over here. As for clubs who don't share their ground I have no idea but I also think they should.

Arent alot of the NRL pitch logos/sponsors added on during the game footage? Ie super imposed.
They started doing this in SL a few years ago and i remember it had an affect on the camera timing when switching from wide angle to close up.

Some are digitized, but even then, why isn't the RFL looking at that to maximise sponsorship. They are so inept. |

I’ve never needed to see a number to know where they are on the pitch.
Minimal is better. Things look better cleaner and less cluttered.

Again, this is just as much a club issue as it is an RFL issue.
I remember during the Bulls' heyday that the pitch at Odsal resembled a double-page spread from the Yellow Pages because it had that many sponsor graphics on it. Leeds also used to sell the in-goal area as a sponsorship opportunity. |

Yeah but these are the things the RFaiL should be making standard at all SL games. The NRL have their regulations that all member clubs adhere to. Over here the clubs do what they want and the RFaiL linger behind so passively. |

The RFL's Operating Rules only reference the markings necessary for the game - try lines, touch lines, etc. It makes no reference to advertising or "metre markings".
On the basis of that, it would seem to be entirely a club issue if they do/don't want to sell on-pitch sponsorship or brand their pitch.
There's a big difference between "being a governing body" and "holding the hands of what should be perfectly capable businesses". |
