Article says 40 nations met in Sydney this week and afterward a proposal to play a world 9s tournament in Australia after season 2019 was put together.
Also says this tournament can be moved to other countries after the first one.
In the article it also says this WC should make $7 million, or more (it is worded äs little as $7 million - which implies that is the minimum).

Fiji and Malta are teams that have been amazing at 7s in Australia for a decade or so. I think they will be hard to beat at 9s.

We should be rewarding Port Moresby with this tournement not Australia where no one really gives much of a crap about International RL.

I have watched rugby league for 54 yrs but have never bean or seen a 9s comp

they are great far better than 7s in my opinion, a bit slower and bit better defence a few less tries makes a better game.
