After watching the Hudds match I have nothing but admiration for all RL players, and the beatings they put their bodies through.

I am concerned about the fixture list and what that is doing to the players.
I a genuinely have some fears for their welfare and have to question the '2 games in a week' strategy.
OK - everything is hand to mouth at the moment in RL and other ares of life, but I do genuinely worry about player welfare at the moment - particularly as I feel the winner of the comp this year will always not carry the same kudos as in other years.

And if they were Wigan players, they'd play about 14 games in the last 8 weeks of the season because of the backlog of league fixtures missed from all the cup games they'd be in.

But that was an era when men were men and pies were pies.

Oh hell.
I would love to return to the days when we played for the school in the morning, Warrington Colts RUFC in the afternoon & then off to the club disco. Bit of a barny in the clubhouse and then whatever!

Not that in any way am I saying that wasn't a tough game against Huddersfield. I can, though, remember Wire playing a cup tie on a Saturday, and a league game the next day. I think the league game was against Wakefield, and both games took place at Wilderspool in the Seventies. At that time, the players all had jobs to do as well.

Again, I'm not discounting player welfare, BUT, what we saw tonight in our game was just unfortunate.
The injuries sustained by Charnley and Clark J, were things that COULD have happened in the third game of the season, let alone the twentieth. Injuries happen in contact sports. It's unfortunate, but a fact of life.

My arguement remains with the RFL's ridiculous game schedule.

I think it's difficult to make direct comparisons with what happened years ago because the game has changed significantly. The legal hits are -imo- far harder, the contact higher and the demands higher.
(Although some of the illegal ones years ago were nastier - in the 70s Murphy often seemed to be off his feet with a swinging arm aimed at the head).
Actually my post was prompted by concern for the Huddersfield players who - like other teams - were playing their 2nd game in 4 days. Not sure how many first teamers they were missing but they sure had some semi busted players out there at the start.
I actually applaud Salford for their stance - although they had not much choice.

The sport is asking a lot of these players - especially when you consider we still have numpties objecting to wearing face masks.....
