He didn't say we were using the marquee rule. Having highly paid players is one thing. Using the marquee rule is different.

As for the comment on silverware, I think the usual health warnings apply. We've ended the last 2 years in our expected slot between 5 & 8, are lacking a quality prop and are starting the year with a hooker from the championship. I think Lee has recruited well, but the team will take time to gel. Hope Jones has had adequate rest after his epic 2019 season.

The cap only ever goes up though, and 6 clubs have marquee players, so having a highly paid players isn't really a competitive advantage, it's a requirement to stand still.

That's why it's so important to invest so heavily in coaching staff and the youth department to try to get an edge. That will be a big chunk of the extra 500k on the bottom line that Pearson talks about I'm guessing. I would speculate that to be fair to Rovers, ours will be similar.

Both clubs have a lot to do in order to match the conveyor of talent at Saint's, Wigan and Leeds. That's where the competitive advantage comes for those clubs I suppose.
