19 man squad for Warington Friday : Wed Aug 14, 2019 10:58 am
Adrian Lam has named the Wigan Warriors 19-man squad to face Warrington Wolves this Friday.
One change from last week as the injured Ben Flower is replaced by Chris Hankinson
Wigan Warriors vs Warrington Wolves, Friday 16th August, DW Stadium, K.O. 7:45pm.
Head Coach Adrian Lam has named the Wigan Warriors 19-man squad to face Warrington Wolves this Friday.
The Warriors will come up against the Wire for the fourth time this season on Friday after playing them at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on two occasions (one league, one cup) and once at Anfield as part of the Dacia Magic Weekend.
Team News
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Adrian Lam highlighted that prop-forward Ben Flower, who made his return from a back injury last week, looks set for another spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
He said, “He’s out with a meniscus issue, he needs an arthroscopy so that will be him out for between four and six weeks.”
The Head Coach also highlighted that winger Joe Burgess will face a late fitness test ahead of Friday’s game.
“On top of that, Joe [Burgess] has a pectoral issue. He’s doubtful. We will give him until the captain’s run to see if he’s ok.”
Skipper Sean O’Loughlin remains on the comeback trail from a pectoral injury that has kept him out since Wigan’s win over Hull FC on 1st August. The 36 year-old is expected to return to action before the end of the 2019 season.
Dom Manfredi (knee) and Tom Davies (ankle) remain Wigan’s only long-term injuries.

And the Wires squad, quite strong, should be a good contest.

Warrington Wolves will travel the short distance to the DW Stadium on Friday night, 16 August, to take on rivals Wigan Warriors in Round 26 of the Betfred Super League.

Head coach Steve Price has named this week’s 19-man squad which sees the return of a number of players who didn’t feature in last week’s defeat to St Helens including Daryl Clark, Mike Cooper and Toby King along with Tom Lineham back from suspension.

Warrington Squad

Sitaleki Akauola, Daryl Clark, Jason Clark, Mike Cooper, Ben Currie, Matt Davis, Bryson Goodwin, Chris Hill, Toby King, Tom Lineham, Harvey Livett, Jake Mamo, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Declan Patton, Joe Philbin, Stefan Ratchford, Matty Smith, Lama Tasi, Ben Westwood

Better to play against Warrington’s ‘first team’ players who have their thoughts on Wembley rather than keen squad members who are trying to get into the Wembley nineteen.

Hardaker
French (on the dreaded highlights clip he's been on the right)
Hankinson (not worth playing Sarginson if he's carrying niggles)
Gildart
Marshall
Williams
Sammut (won't happen :( )
Clubb
Powell
Naverette
Farrell
Isa
Smithies

Surprised by that Wire team, expected plenty more kids in it.

Still expect a win given Wembley and their form, but certainly not a gimme if they turn up. Flip side being that we could really lay a marker down if we beat their first team so soon before the play offs.

I wouldnt be at all surprised if Wire give this one a real go.

They did their usual thing of slackening off badly once they'd reached the final, and now suddenly they're in danger of dropping down the table. Can't see Price allowing that to continue.

I agree. I can’t see anything other than wire at full pelt and we’ll need to be on our game to compete. That said if we keep our share of possession I’d back us to win. We need to keep the handling errors and penalty count low and if we do, we stand a real chance of being level on points with them tomorrow night.
