Of course the referees shouldn’t be abused. That’s a given.

But I think Ganson is expecting some kind of fairytale land that doesn’t exist and never has.
Of course players are going to appeal. Are we really going to penalise and even ban players for appealing for a penalty? In cricket there’d be no players left.
Also unfortunately, as with penalties in football, players are sometimes having to dive and simulate and over-exaggerate to get penalties that should have been awarded anyway.
Whilst the players are sometimes disrespectful to the referee there are also sometimes occasions where the refs are disrespectful to the players and talk to them in a poor/childish manner.

So whilst I’d agree with the general point re respect toward refs, it is also a two-way street and I think the refs could do more to engender respect.
