The issue we have with Lockers is you can’t see any pattern in when these injuries come. It’s not like you can say he’s being flogged for 75 mins and picking them up near the end of the game and the injuries seem to vary wildly. He can be fine for weeks and then something goes or as is the case these past few weeks, he can come back from one knock, do 5/10 mins and something goes in a different part of his body.

I’d love to see him play on but because of the reasons I’ve noted, it makes it difficult to say we’ll wrap him in cotton wool and just play him in the big games because he’s as likely to pick up an injury then as he is after playing 8 on the spin.

Sad to say but his time may have come.

I'd be very happy if he does 12 more months. Hopefully that will be on a deal that's in the clubs favour tho.

He'd be great to have in our squad next year.

Shaun has earned the right to decide when the time is right for him to retire. When he broke into the Wigan first team as a stand off he had a lot to live up to given his family’s history with the club.He has far exceeded any expectations that were set for him and has been a credit to himself, his family and the club.He got loads of unjustifiable criticism at the start of his career and rose above it to become one of our best ever players.I hope he can regain fitness to play again this season,to captain the Lions and go again next year.

The team should always come before individual players. Unfortunately I think it's time for him to move on to the next challenge of his career - coaching.

I agree. But the club also has a right to pay him for the amount of time he is likely to spend on the pitch.

I think that we should let nature take its course and not rush him back and get him 100% fit for next season

100% in favour of SOL playing on, assuming he wants to of course. Other than him still being one of the best in the league when on the pitch, there are 2 other things worth bearing in mind:

1. It's very easy to exaggerate his fitness issues. He still plays easily enough games to justify his status as a key player.

2. More importantly, we've got a huge turnover of players as it is next year. We've all got high hopes for Hastings and others, but one of the thing O'Loughlin is excellent at is knitting our play together.

He's at the stage of his career that he has to take a year at a time, but I'd be delighted if he carries on.

This injury is a bit of a freak one.

Give us one more year lockers, let’s win the comp with Burgess, Hastings etc al

Give your successor another years development

And ride off into the sunset.

Putting aside the injury concerns - how many games has O'Loughlin actually been at his best this year (or anywhere near it)?
