??? He almost beat Naologo on the outside who is rapid and he’s beaten plenty of players this season.

How many times has he had decent ball with a chance of finishing a try? He barely got a sniff from Williams or Gildart tonight. One grubber kick that he wasn’t far off and then we didn’t bother trying it again.

Form is temporary. He’s got to be a lot worse for longer before it’s time to write him off.

He’s got more vision and awareness than most of our backs and has put players in for tries when some of the players we have had recently seem blissfully unaware they have another 12 team mates on the pitch.

I’m not sure, he was on fire for his first 8-10 games this season and was bagging try’s for fun, making breaks, defending well but then it suddenly hit the buffers and about 3-4 weeks later we learned he’d signed a new deal. Maybe I’m cynical or I’m putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5 but the timing all seemed too convenient.

There's nothing better than recovering form that knowing a lad from the NRL is breathing down your neck.

For what it's worth I think Burgess has made it really easy tonight for Lam to pick French for the Hull KR game (to boost attendances). Unless French gets a bench spot.

Gildart spent all bloody night covering for Burgess in defence I'm sick of him charging out of the defensive line and leaving us open

While back I wouldn't have believed that Marshall would be further up the pecking order than Burgess, but he must be close to it now. Which says plenty about both players. Burgess has ability, height, and decent speed, and is for sure international class, but he is not showing it right now.

Almost beat a player on the outside? Exactly, he would of beaten him a few years ago. Naologo isnt that fast, Hardaker beat him in a foot race to the ball in the second half and whilst Hardaker is no slouch, hes by no means rapid.

Remember this post in 12 months time and tell me im wrong. Burgess is finished as a top class winger. I dont know if he could transition to a useful centre but he no longer offers anything on the wing. Even his kick returns are labored and slow. A few years ago he could run around the chasers using his speed to make decent ground but he no longer has the speed or agility to do it.

But it's not just about speed, is it? Hall and McGillvary hold down places for England, and neither are exactly the fastest available. I don't see why Burgess couldn't match them, if he put his mind to it.
