The ideal Captain : Tue Jul 23, 2019 2:51 pm
Just thinking, should we stay up, we need to look for a new captain. For me there are three categories:

1. On field presence. Someone one like Big Dave for example, who has the character not to just get the players going but the fans too.

2. Leadership ie a pivot. Someone whose playing position requires them to lead the team ie halfback or stand off.

3. Homegrown. Someone whose come up through the ranks, knows what the club is about and appreciates the opportunity to play for Trin.

We’ve gone through 3 with Kirmond essentially. We’ve gone through 2 with Miller. Obviously Kirmond won’t be playing next year, and I don’t think Miller has been great at all. Maybe go for Big Dave next year? With Wood as VC.

Providing we stay up of course.

I've always thought the ideal captain should be an 80minute man - Ashurst springs to mind. I guess without being in the dressing room you wouldn't be able to say who the natural leaders are but I think Dave might be a good shout.

For me, if either of them were captain material they already would be.
Dave is a great team energiser but he isn't a captain in my opinion. Vital to the team but needs a sensible leader with him.

I thought Miller was good enough but not sure now. No captain would change what is going on but someone like JD would drive us harder.
Unfortunately we dont have a JD.

I'd be looking to recruit one as the current crop don't should out a captain for me. Not a bad thing. They just are not that kind of person.
Brough was, but not now.

Of the current crop I’d have no reservation in putting tanginoa up for captaincy ,what you get on the field is a no nonsense player who leads by example ,just the sort of player the club needs ,with big dave as vice,With his remit to get the fans stirred up .
This is all providing they actually want the job.

Fifita was supposedly going for his Op. yesterday, has anyone heard how it went (assuming it happened) and whether there's any likelihood of him returning this season ??
