Sammut : Tue Jul 09, 2019 11:53 am
Jarrod has opened up about issues in his personal life and things that effected his career decisions. Think it highlights that players are still just people and their choices and reasons for choices can be many fold and we should mebbee think about that when criticising players or owners for decisions they make in life

I think his message is that by speaking out about mental health issues we will get support and understanding.

That's exactly what he is saying.
But at the time when he went back north some were not overly happy.
We are all guilty of having a go at players who choose to move on, sometimes we forget their reasons may not be obvious

JESUS WEPT :WALL: HOW MANY TIMES?????
£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.

There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT:

1. I applaud him for coming out and explaining what he was going through
2. I still believe we could and should have received a transfer fee for him......that's not a pop at Him BTW........but that's a rabbit hole I'm sick of going down!

Dont think he had actually signed a contract so couldn't ask a fee.
His contract ran out in the oct I believe.

He had signed it two days before he got the ultimatum and asked if the club would rip it up an hour before they were due to announce his signing. Chose his family and it didnt work out for him but not the end of the World for the Broncos, nobody would have paid for him, he didnt have any other options when he left and then from nowhere Wigan took a punt. It was literally clubs like Hunslet and Halifax offering him half of what he wanted until the Wigan call came.

Assuming this is true then the club did the decent thing. However, I don't see the point of sneering at his other options when (as mentioned elsewhere) there likely would have been considerations beyond the size of his contract.

I wasn't sneering at them it was me who had got them on the table for him as we supplied both clubs at the time. Hunslet got their main sponsor Clipper to put his wages in for him as a way to boost the club into the Championship but thankfully for Jazz he got offered a deal at Wigan and didn't need to take a huge pay cut to play lower league footy.

Should always be a cooling off period on a contract anyhow, but interesting to hear that he had signed.
It's good to hear that the club did the right thing by the bloke, especially with the job he was heading too. Family has to come first

The club do a lot of good things mate, they just chose not to announce them and bask in glory for it. That's why I get so annoyed at morons popping at a 70 year old bloke who does nothing but good for the club and can't defend himself. Not that he would justify most of it with a response anyway.

The club is tiny, the fan base is small, the retail is virtually none existent, the stadium is ideal for the playing and training needs but not financially beneficial. The RFL want to change the rules again. SKY are rumoured to be slashing the money massively for 2021 leaving the game and many clubs in limbo.

Given all of that plus more do people really expect David to keep throwing cash at it in the way they have historically? It's time to be stable and see what happens. If it means going down then getting back up should be a lot easier especially as it will likely be two promotion spots with potentially no full teams to compete with.

And let's be honest this season is far from concluded. If London stay up on this budget and with the steady growth continuing then I hope there will be some humble pie on the menu in the hospitality lounge. If they don't then are people really suggesting Wardy and Langers can't fire this squad through the Championship again?
