Halifax Stun The Eagles : Sun Apr 28, 2019 3:55 pm
Halifax Stun The Eagles

Following yesterdays parting of ways with coach Richad Marshall, Halifax had to travel to the 2019 Championship surprise package, the Sheffield Eagles, desperate for a win to give their play-off hopes a boost. Simon Grix had temporarily taken over the reigns against the experience of Mark Aston.
Halifax had Scott Murrell and Chester Butler back in their side while Sheffield gave a debut to London Broncos dual-registration player Nathan Mason off the bench.
A forty-two point victory would put the Eagles up to second as they strive for a return to Super League for the first time since the merger experiment twenty years ago. For Halifax, a loss would signal a mountain to climb to achieve a play off position.

Well done lads and to everyone at the club after an week you have beaten one of the top teams in our league. This can’t be underestimated at all. Especially as all the other clubs around us in the league have won today. This keeps us in contention. Well done, proud to be blue and white. Up the Fax!

My Humble Opinion Only - let the knockers begin.

Muzza the difference today. I perhaps see too much negative with him but he was head and shoulders the best player on the field. Still, he needs to shift that weight. Chester Butler made a few mistakes but he has massive potential. To think we had both Butler and Rawsthorne, 2 x factor style players. The forwards stood up well and consistently made meters. Thought Kavanagh and Fairbank led from the front and I know he goes unnoticed on occasions but Elliott Morris is always consistent. Robinson and Sharp also significant contributions. 3 of Sheffield's tries were breakaways and I think more a result of our inability to snuff out the play for the Millar and Blackmore tries than ingenuity on Sheffield's part.

At the beginning of the season that would have been the sort of scoreline we would have expected over at Sheffield but as things have gone its a really good win and the Sheffield players looked devastated at the end of it. The truth of it was that the game was probably more comfortable than the scoreline suggesting with 3 of their tries having an element of luck about them, the interception, the Thackery lucky break from a nothing kick and then Blackmore getting the break after hitting QLT with his kick. Hopefully we can kick on from this which must have been just about our best performance of the season.

Im still confident of making the top 5 now the board have acted and Im glad they did it before yesterday as I couldnt see anything but a hammering with Marshall in charge. On a side note I wonder if this now means he will sack off his social media profiles. ;)

It takes skill to play the rebound of someone's head.
