Ok buzza question for you? Ball comes out in a tackle, what are the officials looking for? They make the call on what they see!
That may be the wrong call but it’s how they see it with how things happen.
If a ball comes out in the tackle you have to make a call of some sort! So yep sometimes it’s what fans see as 50/50, reality is there is always something in there that makes a ref say that was a ko or that was ripped out, so it’s not guessing it’s making a decision based on best evidence.
A freeze frame of that try at Toronto is fine, you can see he dropped it. Watch the same incident at full speed show it to someone who does not know what happened see what they say!
I didn’t see where other touchy went so don’t know if he saw grounding, but TJ IG and Ref at full speed did not see it come away.
It’s why VR was introduced in the game remember

Buzza let me throw in another question for you.
You have a player goes over the try line in what looks like a try scoring position. The ref is unsighted, both TJ,s indicate they didn’t see the grounding, there is no video ref! What is the call, try or no try?

Isn't there a protocol on this? Aren't they to favour the attacker??

Yup, there is protocol! So guessing is taken out of the equation even though something happened the ref didn’t see. There is also a protocol to follow when the ball comes out in the tackle, so if there is no clear evidence of ko or rip you follow the protocol you don’t guess.
The loose ball has several factors taken into account though.
So if the ref does not see what happens he does not just guess he follows the guidance on what call to make.

Good, I assume the protocol is there to try and ensure their guesses are right more often than wrong. Do you know if actual data is reviewed to validate the assumptions of the protocol ?

Have I missed some thing here I thought this game was on the T V yesterday why was the try not referred to the video ref which is the norm for most tries scored by the touch line.

There was a video ref last night it was on T V.

A poor decision by a referee, surely not!!!!!!
