Full of running for a couple of seasons under Westie & Hughes and then Monie came along and made him work. He was actually the secret weapon in 98, totally unstoppable coming off the bench as an impact player. After that, as said above he lost interest. Both these players discussed are part of the few that could actually break a tackle in the last 20 years.

I’ll never forget a game away at Saints in 97/98ish when Haughton was just unplayable. The size of a big second rower and the pace of a centre and they couldn’t cope with him at all. We won 66-10 (something like that) and he scored two try’s from distance.

It was the lovely away version of the Warrior kit we were playing in so I think that was 1997.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.

Pumping arms and legs, very broad shoulders, he appeared unstoppable at times.

Re: O/T Hock! : Wed May 16, 2018 5:37 pm
Simon Haughton was included in John Monies dream team on the bench IIRC. Monie described him as a power runner said he wasnt a great or hurtful defender but would always make a break in a big game.

Still one of the most damaging wide running second rowers ive ever seen. He had the speed of a back, immense upper body strength and could hold cover tacklers off. He scored some breathtaking long range tries. He scored a cracking try V Leeds in 98, the game that Cassidy elbowed Adrian Morley in the face. We lost the game and had found it hard to break Leeds defence down that night but Haughton took a pass in his own half and swatted Adrian Morley off and sprinted 60 meters holding the Leeds Fullback off as he went over in the corner.

wow, never knew that,

I wonder if he looks back and regrets what he could have done. As I said before what a waste of talent.

If your hearts not in it though, what can you do but move on.
