It was a refreshing change to find the ref didn't look as though he had just wandered in from a fourth form outing. Mind it's funny to see one of the worst refs I've seen, Mr Cobb, is now in SL, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Eventually...

I'm pretty sure he was doing a Sky game a week or so back.

Yeah Joe Cobb retired a year ago Bulliac.

The refs do look better this year but it’s early days yet. I also wonder if they look better because we’re playing better. You always get a better deal when you’re the dominant team. Mind you at York it was a fine line and we did get the rub of the green there IMO.

I thought Cobb left the RFL - pretty sure homophobia was cited as a reason. Not condoning homophobic abuse, but it is a good riddance anyway.

I'm with Bullseye. If, we win on Sunday then I'd love a strong championship side at home to really test our metal. I think we could have them all a good game and potentially spring an upset. At home with a big crowd behind the lads, and get some coin in. Not Toronto though.

Round after, Leeds at Leeds, another big crowd and gate.

Gotta grind past Hunslet first however and that will be a tough game.

I'd relish a good cup run though and some meaningful games against higher ranked sides would do wonders for our squad.

I got the impression at the time that people were jumping to conclusions. Tim Roby I believe was the first to cite homophobia amongst the RFL (hence why he toddled off to Australia), and I think ever since then when a referee decides to leave, people just assume that's the reason. More likely with Cobb he just had a very good job outside of RL and it wasn't worth the hassle to keep refereeing, especially as badly as he was at it. I seem to remember Karl Kirkpatrick gave up officiating when they went full time and he didn't want to give up his very good living.

Anyway, we're derailing the thread about the game. My apologies.

Agree with that. I'ts fine to look ahead but I think we're maybe getting a bit ahead of ourselves by maybe dismissing Hunslet. We're possibly favourites for the game but it won't be easy against another side who may well try to use a grievance as motivation.

Thankfully the team seem to have got over this hurdle. In the last few years there's been a lot of arrogance about them being the bigger club and they've taken a lot of teams for granted, often losing or narrowly winning as a result. From what I've seen (with the Ross Peltier interview and Keighley as an exception), they don't seem to be doing that this year. Maybe it's Kear that's bringing that about or maybe it's just a case of the penny having finally dropped and a lesson been learned. But it's a welcome change in attitude that they're not taking teams for granted any more.
