The only sensible thing to do now is stop all the chest beating and talking up of casual asides by the maniac Trump, and agree to a 2nd referendum when the terms of the deal have been clarified.

Although personally, I'd be happy with that, I dont think that could possibly happen.
The only circumstance would be if EVERY media publication could convince the electorate that we would all be significantly worse off on the outside and even then, I dont see it being a runner.
I also believe that there would have to be major changes on "free movement" which, again, I just dont see changing any time soon, although, there is little doubt that the emigration issues in Africa do need urgently addressing.
All of Europe seems to be attractive to large numbers from that continent, particularly, France Germany and England.

Whatever deal we get will be worse than what we currently enjoy. That's for certain

Depends how you view it. If reducing the number of eastern Europeans entering the country is your measure of success then for those, it will be a better deal. But thanks for speaking for the nation.

I was speaking from a purely economic point of view with regard to our trading relationship with our biggest market.

I'm not sure those that voted out based solely on eastern European immigration will see Brexit as a success when prices go up but wages don't and they see no discernible difference in their lives. They'll have to be brainwashed to blame the poor or the infirm next.

What is it that you have against "eastern europeans" specifically.

And there speaks the voice of Brexit - broadly, it *was* about immigration; and the dog whistle nonsense of Farage, The Daily Mail and The Sun ensured that EU migrants were painted as the cause of all the ills of this country - so people voted to fix it. It now transpires not only that the campaign was based on lies and misinformation about migration, but also that the Government always had the power to limit the number of EU migrants coming here - but chose not to.

The country now faces a looming economic and social disaster, because of the total lack of conviction, honesty and effectiveness of a small group of wealthy politicians who will always be insulated from the worst impact of their actions. It's a shocker.

This seems to sum it up; and this is from the polling company who predicted the Tories would have their majority wiped out, and were derided by Andrew Neil and co on Newsnight.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

There was misinformation on both sides - Osborne said there would be a need for immediate tax increases if we voted to leave - that was clearly a lie.

To me the biggest issues were:
1. Immigration
2. The ability to make our own laws
3. The cost of membership
4. The EU as an organisation - its corruption and wastefulness. When was the last time its accounts were signed off?

Leaving must give the treasury a financial gain as we will no longer have the negative £9bn a year it costs to be a member - if we assume the government pays out the £5bn in subsidies that are currently coming from the EU.

So with that more monies could go into the NHS and education and social care etc.

Biased news from a Biased paper about a poll of Cordoroyites.

Assuming everything goes swimmingly for our economy thereafter eh?

I expect the time taken to get trade deals and the nature of any deals will have an influence for decades to come.

That £9bn may end up being swallowed up on things compensating for any poorer economic position we find ourselves in. I very much doubt we'll see any economic benefit.
