Interesting but probably understandable comments from Richard Horne in this week's League Express in reference to losing a number of 'star' players ...

'I'm already having lads say to me they want to stay but I'm having to say to them that if they are getting offers from Championship clubs, it's looking like their best option. We can’t promise them anything yet until we know where we're at next year. All players want to earn whatever they can and everyone wants to play at the higher level, so if they get a good offer, even half good, we just can't compete with it at the minute. It's their decision and if they can't hold on and wait until we know what we can offer them, then we have to wish them luck'.

Finally getting out of League One would tick the playing at the higher level box ... the financial side of things is, admittedly, a completely separate issue.

Hunslet coach said more or less the same thing after the game last Sunday about departures from Hunslet.

Totally understandable situation. RFL, this on you fairly and squarely. Makes the play off games even more tasty.

It would not be a surprise to see most of the players with League one clubs only offered pay as you play deals with the situation being as it is.
Listening to Hunslets coach giving an interview after the game , it would appear they are losing a number of lads to the Championship and they wont be the only ones.

I know we have Club Doncaster behind us to sweeten the pot , but surely teams like Hunslet , keighley, Coventry and both Welsh clubs wont have the financial clout to pay large contracts to part time players if the reported drop in funding is true.

There are plenty of good players plying their trade in the lower divisions, so there could be an option for a few of the better ones to step up to the Championship with the option of more money being available.

We will be very lucky to hold on to players like Douglas , Beryl and Smeaton as I am sure there will be plenty of clubs casting an eye over them for next year.

I have noticed James Ford at a number of our games this season so it wouldn't be a surprise if York was not an option for the three mentioned above.

Hopefully we can finish the season strongly and get up in to the Championship with Barrow next season .
