The times they are a changing. : Wed Sep 28, 2022 8:15 pm
Its quiet at the club again and although little seems to be happening on the home front as far as the game is concerned big changes, perhaps the biggest for decades, are afoot. IMG one of the biggest sports consultants have been sounding out all the stake holders in the game including sponsors, media partners, players, clubs and 20,000 fans and come up with their initial proposals. I have long been an advocate of a clubs off field activities, stadia, structures and status being considered as well as their on field endeavours. In many ways our club is well placed although the deficit in finance outlined by Adam might go against us but the new training facilities the excellent youth set up and the Community outreach department are all as good as any in the British game.
I thought that FC fans might like to discuss these developments as they unfold and thus the thread.

Her is what we know so far

The image of the game is so important in this process as we move forward and the rest of the sporting world is watching so although hardly surprising from the individual concerned this sort of stuff doesn't help us at all does it. I guess IMG will learn a lot that many of us already knew about our central administration from this!

I'm willing to give licensing another try as the game just can't keep plodding on like it has the last decade.

Not a given we will get an A these days though, our finances are poor, we don't own our stadium and we can't claim to have been successful on the field. We should still be well out of trouble but we are one of several clubs who could be doing a lot more to contribute to the game getting bigger.

unless the game gets a better tv deal and one from the french too, cant see many clubs voting to lose those extra games as it will be loss of income

dont agree that some clubs are protected due to being classed as an A club, if you finish bottom do you deserve that status?

It shouldent be the case but RL can't lose its big clubs, losing Warrington this year would have been a disaster as they have a good ground, crowds and a rich owner. Bradford messed up several times but the league has missed them and their big crowds.

I agree that this probably isn't the end of loop games unless the clubs get money from something else. Also talk of Magic Weekend being scrapped and thats another earner for the clubs as they get a cut of the sales.

Love the last paragraph, “said nowt, done nowt, earned a fortune “
I’ve got a funny feeling the clubs will vote as they always do, protect themselves and go with the status quo, not “Sweet Caroline” but just stay the same.

After been quite strongly against licensing in the past, I’m accepting in the fact that the sport realistically needs it to develop teams lower down the pecking order. I think the initial IMG proposals are positive and for the good of the game, it’s a fine balance between putting pressure on sides to improve their faculties whilst also giving them a realistic time frame

I expect there will be a few voices having a go in the period before the Clubs meet to hear the detail and vote on thee proposals, for one of our main issues as a game is the parochial nature of it. However, when you consider this initiative was instigated by the Huddersfield Chairman and the Super League Clubs in collaboration with the rest of the sport through the RFL and that when you look at the IMG portfolio, their past experience, the length of their contract and indeed the breadth of the consultation we are using perhaps the biggest sports consultants and management company in the world, this is possibly the British games last chance. As Yorkshire sport said, "Over 3,000 employees. Promoting and delivering events in over 25 countries across the world. A portfolio of work that encompasses some of the biggest sporting events on the entire planet. In case you didn't know already, this isn't the Rugby Football League we are talking about: it is IMG. And if we don't listen to what someone has to tell us as a sport now, we may as well never bother".

They have already seen through the central management of the game and all this stuff about Rimmer 'deciding to step down' is rubbish, because he's simply been rumbled and it's more a case of the writing being on the wall. His latest of faux par is just the most recentin a catalogue of poor decisions poor calls and retrograde moves over the years that have seen the greatest game in the world in decline. This agencies experience in running some of the top Tennis, Golf and Basketball operations in the world and the length of the contract we have signed with them mens that they have to be listened to. because there is hope for every club at every level in their recommendations however as for badly run clubs playing in under standard stadia are concerned as the Yorkshire Post announced today ' the days of Clubs coasting in Super League are over'.

Distribution on a constant level is guaranteed right down the food chain of the three competitions and as the clubs throughout the game recognise now the need for change and are braced for it every club will now have to raise their standards. The vote should be a formality but I suspect it might not be.

Re: The times they are a changing. : Thu Sep 29, 2022 7:00 am
Rather than worrying about being category B, clubs should have a more positive attitude and look at what they can do to become category A. This has been the problem of the last 10-15 years, some clubs look at doing what they can to just stay in super league, rather than looking to catch up with Wigan, saints etc. If licensing critceira had been strictly applied the last time we did it, cas and wakey should have been kicked out of super League until they had grounds that were suitable for top flight rugby league. The aim should be we end up with at least 12 category A teams to make it a competitive, entertaining league. You can't just rely on an ageing, nostalgic fan base who won't pay more than £25 for a ticket and refuse to pay more for big event games...new money, new fans, family friendly stadiums and making game day more of an experience rather than simply going to the game and going home. I agree the category A teams should be exempt from relegation as some are too big to lose. If you watch the Bradford bulls documentary on sky, you realise how big the club were and what we've actually lost, it's a big shame
