The shortlist was drawn up as far back as 2021, interviews held in march.

Rovers gave smith every chance to extend

Of course it was, Rovers had there best season in years in 2021 under Smith and them decided to draw up some replacements

Any evidence, as the only thing I see is that they expected and wanted Smith to stay?

Don't know if Ellis has got caught up in the reshuffle. Not sure if he'll be an assistant.

Some nice words from Rovers fans here, done a great job, left the club in a better place, but my favourite is them wishing him the best of luck in thr future

I'm enjoying it, we get an experienced and successful coach who Rovers fans adored until that press conference and would still be at Rovers if he didn't do that. You have an NRL assistant who has never coached first grade and was sacked for fighting by one club. :D

Irrespective of what we all think about HKR their recruitment is good and well balanced.
Ill once again get the usual black marks for saying this but they will finish in the top six and we wont unless Tony Smith can work some magic and find us a big pacy second row,and front row,and we need a wing with real speed.
Hopefully he can engineer Taylor,Griffin and Evans out the door so he can add to the squad

"Once a Robin always a Robin" was my favourite. Wonder if he will still feel the same if Smith does get announced.

Can’t you see all the Rovers fans comments under that piece saying they didn’t want him to stay and were looking forward to a new coach coming in?

No me neither

For next season? Batch is decent, 3 NRL signing aren't anything special if you watch the NRL, on paper all three aren't as good as the 3 they have just released when they signed them(I know it doesn't always work out that way).

Why do you think smith announced his departure the way he did?

Hudgell was in Florida at the time, meeting Willie peters,

Like I said, smith was given every chance, the other offers he was hoping for didn’t materialise
