What I don't get is that you can blame Poaching for the poor performances but can't praise him for the good ones.

It's all about potential to me. We have clearly won games and competed in games where tactics were what made the difference.
Equally he's only just completed his first season of being a head coach. He isn't perfect but I see potential that he'll get better and am prepared to stick with him on that basis.

I remember you arguing that Whitbread wasn't worth a quota spot when he started. Even the best take time but I remember posting week after week showing even in the worst games that his stats were good. And it's coming out now.

Some I don't think will improve any more. Ashurst is useful and playing the best he has in ages but he isn't going to develop further. He is what he is. I'm wondering whether Max is the same after seeing Shaul.

I often get called out when people are miserable after a defeat but sometimes I like to try see potential that it will improve when some just see the score.

I'd also say Willie has been pretty good with his signings too. I look forward to seeing what he does with the money TJ and Tupou release (and maybe others)

Miller, I'm on the fence. He needs the forwards to give him a platform if we want to see him play like he did today. But he's never going to be a Lewis or a Thurston. If he stays I'll be pleased. If he goes I'll look forward to see who we sign.

You keep saying I said he wasn’t worth a quota spot when what I was saying was that he wasn’t at the time the special player we needed, and I was right. We are still second from bottom and still in danger I’ll say this until I’m blue.

Being where we are has nothing to do with Whitbread and he is definitely a bright star in a still black cloud. And yes I’d snap him up tomorrow. However the lad is no fool I suspect and he won’t want to be sweating it out next season in a team that may well be just as poor.

Whitbread is the kind of player that will help a poor team do better but will make a better team look top notch.

So my point stands, if we can keep him YES but he’s not the answer. If there isn’t a major restructuring next year he will just be a brave footnote.

If Arona retires, and we don’t retain Jorge then we really need to make those count.

I’m still unconvinced about Poching but if he got an edge over say Chester it has to be his knowledge and connection to Kiwi and especially Somoan players. Hopefully he has an ace up his sleeve.

I think we definitely need to keep Whitbread. He's been brilliant.

Won't have gone unnoticed elsewhere I'm afraid.

So, do we break the bank to keep him?

OK but look what you're left with. MC has already stated next year will be even tighter whilst the rest of our pack really are ageing fast.

I'm not disagreeing with you but he's going to cost and it will hit other recruitment.

If there ever was a season that we need to break the bank then its the next one (providing we survive this year)
We must hit the ground running as we enter the improved stadium, we need a feeling of positivity to get our support base expanded and retain supporters. Better facilities are great, but you still need a good team on the pitch to get the whole club building and growing.

Perhaps breaking the bank is not the right term, lets say invest more than we normally would in order to gain far bigger benefits in the near future

Although it won't be as dour as MC makes out, he is an accountant after all, it won't be a spending season I can assure you. Everything next year will depend heavily on the younger squad members stepping up. If it works it will achieve what you want, it's not just about money, if not well another hard season awaits.

That said I totally disagree about breaking the bank, when has that ever worked for us? You surprise me there.

The 2024 season will be the one to go for as the ground will be sorted and we could actually capitalise on our investment.

I know we expanded the squad now perhaps we should reduce it and spend on better quality. A risk it is but the Academy is paying dividends now so it's time for a proper pathway from Academy to reserves to first team

2024 would be too late ,if we cut back and get relegated before the development is complete.

No I think you misunderstand.

Clearly we will have to invest and go to our absolute max to at least make a fist of next year. However for me the break the bank bit needs to wait a year as i just don't see the return.

For example, if we did attract a lot of new fans next year where would you put them?
