You really think a new stand is going to help us compete? It will still be the same porr quality team just playing in slightly better surroundings. Just because we might end up with a shiny new part of a stadium does not mean that the on the field product will improve.
The prime example of this is Arsenal (Yes I know its a different sport but hear. From the mid 90's to the mid 00's they were one of the best teams around. Regular trophy winners always finished in the top 3, a few league titles. They moved from Highbury to the Emirates with the promise to the fans that this would allow them to compete at the Top Table of World Football for years to come as it would generate more income and so on. Guess what the funding of the stadium was a huge financial Burdon that they are yet to really recover from and since their move they were unable to compete at the top financially and on the field and have not won a league since.
