Considering he's contracted till the end of 2021 I can't see how any situation can be comparable to the Hampshire saga?
It isn't but some people like to do the 'local boy done down' routine and I'm sorry but it doesn't work for me.
Jowitt came through our system and despite the early promise and a heap of bad luck he's yet to cement his place. All the same, he's still got another season at least to prove himself, if thats not the club playing fair I don't know what is.
I have no gripe with Hampshire and would love to have kept him but I don't know the wheres and why's money-wise to truly take sides. What I do know is that Hampshire wouldn't sign for his 'hometown club' as a kid, I have no issue with that as such but he didn't and that's a fact. So unlike Jowitt and Johnston and hopefully a host of others in the future we owe him nothing other than our gratitude for two seasons in which he mostly played well.
Others may see it differently but I see local players as those who come through our junior ranks rather than those who happened to be born in Wakefield but ply there young talent elsewhere. That's their choice and I don't blame them but I certainly feel the clubs juniors are the ones we owe our loyalty to and those who deserve that little bit extra.
Just my opinion.
