I've had a word with Fred, he says he will come out of retirement and at 81 years old he will be the best man for the job.

Last time I saw him he still looked very fit.

You know it makes sense.

Quality bloke and a top ref (not Fred as in bet Fred) but seen as the OP Is for the ref

I’m very proud to say Fred Lindop taught me to play rugby

I’m told he is still in great shape and health too

I know that we didn't have the VR back then but he and John Holdsworth always seemed pretty good and neither of them took any nonsense.
There certainly wasn't any of the play acting and begging for decisions that we see nowadays.

Maybe they could employ Mr Lindop as the new head of refereees

Wasn’t it Holdsworth who allowed the cup try (which was short) against Bradford. I seem to remember he had another important impact on the game with regards to Nigel Wright but that could just be my failing memory.

NeilSummers 'short' try for Bradford was given by Robin Whitfield.

Yes, Fred always kept himself very fit.
One reason why he has kept himself fit all these years, is because back
when he was a teenager, he was a very good Rugby League player (as were most of the Lindop lads) but he suffered a very bad injury and had to have a kidney removed.
He gave up playing and took up Refereeing and went on to become as we all know, a top RL referee.

This referee was often referred to as Robin Wakefield, always controversial when in charge of Trinity games.
