Surely it'd be better to say you think he'd probably have won us a couple of games from DG's instead of making a thing we will never know about factual?

He would imo have dropped the goal against Hull that would have taken us to the semis

If you want me to change that to he “would have won us a couple of games with drop goals” that works for me as well
I don’t see the difference but happy to agree with you shifty

That’s not an opinion it’s just speculation.

Would he have kicked the drop goal Miller did against Catalan?

Probably not but hey who knows.

What would a Cockney know about rugby league?

Re: O'Brian : Thu Oct 11, 2018 8:07 pm
If O'Brien was a good as stated he wouldn't be at Toronto. He does the spectacular but doesn't stand out for me as a good all rounder at full back. Wouldn't trade him for what we have.

Hard to really compare as to whether he would have kicked a certain drop goal that someone else may have, or even missed. Doubting whether O'Brien would have kicked Miller's DG at Newcastle. You could also say would Miller have kicked O'Briens in the MPG.

Both far out kicks, but more at stake with the kick in the MPG, Miller's was central, O'Briens was, I believe off centre. Also I think when O'Brien kicked it, he kicked it while moving forward, while Miller's was from a stationary position.

From someone who has played the sport, and kicked a few, kicking a drop goal from a moving position is a very difficult skill to master.

All if's and buts, but personally I think the one in the MPG was harder, all considered

Outwork trinity makes a very fair point using his experience to back up his opinion

That it doesn't suite you, doesn't mean it's not the point

Top six 2005 - Trinity.

Its pretty far out there that we would be approaching a full back purely on his ability to drop a goal. He doesn’t have much else going for him.

Maybe he would have kicked that goal, but without with Grix or Miller it might just as easily been the goal that kept us in Super League in the MPG.
You can't just take one incident. You have to reimagine the whole season with GOB. The drop goal may not have then had the same significance.

Short on tactical nuance, three drop goals, just three, and Toronto would be in SL.
