Comment is about attitude, our attitude from day one should be we are in a relegation battle, the target for safety is 20 points. That is what the mentality of coaching staff and players should be. Until you get to 20 points then we are in a relegation battle. All the talk this season has been about, best squad ever, top 5, dream team players, Wembley etc etc and that attitude doesn't work at Wakey, we thrive on scrap yard dog, everybody hates us, playing out of a dump, lets show em mentality, the moment the players forget we are in a relegation battle we get what we have seen this season. Once we take our eyes of the relegation battle the wheels always fall of our bus. Now if we get to 20 points after 15 or 16 games then hey I leave the door open for all you positive people, fill your boots even talk about Old Trafford, but until we get to 20 points we scrap for every inch.
Bull - the decline in our fortunes has nothing to do with "taking our eyes off the relegation battle," and everything to do with losing a massive part of our first team to long-term injuries over a very short period of time; that's when the wheels fell off.

Yep, and dare I say that I think we have coped a lot better given the number of injuries we have had than a lot of other clubs would have done during that period.
I just hope now that we are starting to see bodies back that we can pick some confidence up and more importantly start picking some points up. Yes, we are 4 points of bottom, we are also 2 points of 5th which is easy to forget, a few wins and things will start to look very different for us.

I'd agree, just a couple of games where we have been a bit more dire than we should been even with injuries.
For me our worst game was the loss to HKR when we had virtually no injuries and they were there for the beating, that was two vital points chucked away and for me is the most unforgivable performance for years, that day we did take our eye off the ball and it could cost us.

Ditto Leeds. That night Leeds were awful, with the only try coming from and interception (when it looked like we would score). The very fact that we couldnt score against them shows just how poor we were.

I don't entirely agree with the first paragraph - I think we've coped very badly, and that I guess reveals the weakness in our position of spending well below the SC; we just don't have the depth of quality that some teams possess. Players like Kershaw and Croft should be introduced in a winning team - not called on in an emergency to shore up a busted team; that does nothing for their develop
I entirely agree with the latter sentiment though - we live in hope!

Similar performances but against Leeds we had injuries, HKR still defies explanation.

At what point did the wheels exactly come off then? At Hull we lost TJ & Bill, but managed to win. A few games later we lost Miller & Brough, but managed to win. After that against Leeds & Hudds we had between 8-10 players out, but won both games??! If any wheels fell off then surely it was on the bus to the capital for a second time........

Maybe it was the cumulative effect of one wheel falling off at a time?

In a decent side, when you lose players, others step up and work harder to fill the hole but, this can only ever be a short term thing and then, if players dont return (and even when they do), those that have upped their game are just too knackered to keep lifting themselves. When you throw in the dreaded "lack of confidence", the downward spiral continues. Initially, we did incredibly well at coping, which just shows how committed everyone is/was and I dont think that were too far away.
As long as we dont pick up any knocks early in the game, I think we will be ok tonight.
Home advantage will be the difference and that bit is up to the fans
