Spookisback:
For the first time in a couple of years... I'm not looking forward to the game on Sunday.... The last time I felt this way was against Newcastle at the beginning of last year.... Of course any win is desirable, but the way Salford and their fans have been treated this year... It seems like every loss... Every thrashing is like a boot to the groin for them.
That they still have any loyalty left in the fan group is astounding.
I know what you mean - but to an extent I'll be there on Sunday to support them and the protest. It's been a sad demise, but the best thing now is for Brown and Kailahi to step aside, pass the club on to a supporters' group who can dissolve it and start again in the lower leagues. With Salford council's blessing, plenty of players would want to play for them, and they'd still get crowds of 2,000 to float the wage bill.
It's not one person's fault but many over the past 8 years. The community trust model wasn't viable for a league that costs clubs £2 million a year to take part. The reduced TV deals in 2017 and 2022 were painful. Directors choosing to spend above their means for on-field results sent them to the edge. Accruing debt along the way didn't help. Krisnan Inu's attempt to get his baller mates Kailahi and Brown involved was naive at best. The RFL probably shouldn't have allowed it but were desperate to fulfil their contract with Sky. Someone (I don't know who) bullted the owners about the land deal with the council. But regardless, Kailahi and Brown should have stumped up the cash every payday at the very least.
None of it was the supporters' fault. And I can't believe some of the players stayed as long as they did.
