Matches of the decade - Top Ten : Sun Dec 29, 2019 4:33 pm
As the decade closes in on us when we think back we've down pretty well over the last ten years. Four times Champions, Challenge Cup Winners twice and a long overdue World Club Challenge win. Here's my top ten greatest wins, you may choose a few different matches. You definitely may rank them in a different order but here they are anyway.
Would be interested to see what others would have in their list (and why):
1. Grand Final win v Saints in 2010. Our first championship in over a decade.
2. Grand Final comeback win v Wire in 2013. 16-2 down just before half time and blitzed Wire in the 2nd half to win comfortably.
3. Challenge Cup Final win v Leeds in 2011. Classic Joel Tomkins try and the 'v' sign to the Leeds fans from Sam.
4. World Club Challenge win in 2017 v Cronulla. Our first WCC in 22 years against the odds.
5. Grand Final win v Wire in 2018 that Manfredi try and fairytale ending for Shaun Wane.
6. Grand Final win v Wire in 2016 scrappy low scoring game, least memorable of the three wins against Wire.
7. Challenge Cup Final v Hull in 2013 ground out the win in poor conditions.
8. Good Friday win in 2011, classic derby game and that winning try from Faz with fifteen seconds to go.
9. Challenge Cup QF v Wire 2011, blistering start by Wigan 22-0, then Wire comeback to level only for Wigan to pull away again and win with ease.
10. Magic Weekend Derby win in 2012 v Saints at The Etihad, Wigan took Saints apart with breathtaking tries from Sam, Hock, Charnley and Carmont. Plus the big fight.
