Your idea of improvement is different to mine. You think making us consistently ok/average is an achievement, i dont.

Most hookers do not take 2/3 steps sideways and then pass the ball. They pass the ball from the floor so as to try and get it in the halfbacks hands as quickly as possible and catch the defence on a misread or to a forward as quickly as possible to catch the defence on the back foot. Stepping sideways and holding the ball up until the last second is classic Chris Anderson flat attack. Its 15 years out of date and most teams scrapped it in the mid 00s because defenses got wise to it and learned to defend it.

Josh Hodgson does the same for Canberra. You telling me Chris Anderson has an effect there too?

Consistently ok/average? Come off it. It was poor under McBanana and hardly awe inspiring under Noble or Waite. If you think this is poor I’d love to know what you thought of them.

Hodgson has been poor throughout his international career IMO and he has to take the blame for that. He over plays and his forwards and halves look confused as to when the ball is and isn’t coming. Fair play to the guy for the career he’s forged in the NRL and he clearly suits that league and his sides game plan but he looks all at sea internationally. The fact he plays in the NRL doesn’t automatically put him ahead of his super league peers IMO. He never has been and never will be fit to lace the boots of James Roby. Had Roby gone to the NRL in his pomp he’d have been a sensation. I wonder sometimes of Hodgson feels he has a lot to prove to English fans and that makes him try and do too much? I say that because he left this country seen as nothing more then a ten a penny hooker and he’s not looked much better in an England/GB shirt since.

He hasn’t lived up to his NRL form for sure but poor? A step too far for me but each to their own.

We do agree that he should be better, I just can’t figure why. Perhaps Canberra suit his style whereas GB/England don’t?

As for Roby I completely agree. He’s been a constant sensation for Saints and he’s played well for England too, though I wouldn’t say he played to his full ability in an England shirt either. Purely for age reasons if it were a straight shoot between Hodgson and Roby it’d be Hodgson but if it were Roby of 4/5yrs ago I’d be choosing him each and every time without doubt.

Re: Wayne Bennett : Wed Oct 30, 2019 7:01 am
I think he has been poor when you consider his form in relation to what he’s showing for Canberra. I’ve been at many of his games in this country and watch all of them I guess and he looks in full headless chicken mode every time I see him. The only time I’ve come away from a game thinking he’d played pretty well was at Anfield last year against the Kiwis.

I think he tries too much rather than just keeping it simple. If I have props running on to the ball like Walmsley, Thompson, Tom Burgess and James Graham do, I’d just want to get them quick ball from the floor but they never get that from Hodgson. Taking a couple of steps out of dummy half every so often to mix it up is fine but he’s doing it pretty much 80% of the time.
