I saw something that confused me on the Canberra v South Sydney game today. A three on one tackle occurred, one man worked his way onto the ball and at a pre arranged call, according to the commentators, two tacklers broke off allowing the single tackler left to strip the ball. Would this be allowed in SuperLeague?

I’m pretty sure the rule changed a while ago that it’s deemed one on one at the time of the strip where previously it only needed another player to have involvement and you couldn’t strip the ball even if the other tackler had fallen away. I could well be wrong though.

Yeah, the rule was changed, and a good thing too. The one-on-one strip is one of the charms of the game.

It's a brilliant slowing down tactic, 3 players can be involved in the tackle then the one with his hands on the ball shouts "let go" leaving him on a one on one situation, in which he can then spend a legit 10 seconds wrestling for the ball.

Worst rule ever, the original rule was all tacklers had to disengage before one could re-engage and strip the ball one on one, this now is ridiculous as the tackler could already have the ball if unsighted by the ref then shout let go
