Williams has wanted to leave for a couple of years. Us getting £500k for a guy that many of us aren't sure is a marquee player is just good business.

Why can’t I question it? He has recouped quite a lot of expenditure in transfer fees yet we don’t see much in return from a team building perspective. With the exception of a few championship players it’s been one way traffic with quality leaving only to be replaced with either mediocre talent or not being replaced at all. If we have got £500k for Williams then when is this along with other transfer fees we have received being put back into them team, because I’ve yet to see it.
I don’t care if it’s a good business deal, as a supporter I want to see the best players playing for my team, yet all I see is our best players constantly being sold and replaced with dross.

You can’t question Lenagan’s financial commitment because year after year he’s invested millions in the club from his own pocket. He’s invested in the infrastructure of the club and has consistently paid out above the top salary cap. He pushed for 2 marquee players which we had when most others didn’t.
One thing we can’t seriously question is his financial commitment.

I’m questioning his financial commitment to the team In general. Having two marquee players who both came through our academy is nothing to boast about , it simply implies that both players have took the club for granted and creamed off what they can. Leneghans handling of contracts is ridiculous with every player being given either get out of jail cards to return or caveats being written to entice NRL clubs to come and buy. It all doesn’t lie with Leneghan though as Radlinski is as much to blame.

At the time of bringing Tomkins x 2 back, it was exactly the right decision to make and this board would have gone into a meltdown had either been allowed to go to another club. Same applies to Burgess and Leuluai. At that time, it was right for the club and whilst it may not have worked as well as we may have hoped, we can only say so with hindsight.
Williams was heavily linked with Warrington and it was right to make him marquee to keep him from our rivals.
As for players creaming the club that’s a ridiculous comment. If I could get another few grand a year from my boss, I’d take it too!
None of us on here know what long term recruitment plan is and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that we are laying the foundation for the next era.

£500k?
Also to be considered is the fact that Williams only takes up £75k cap space. Even I can see that’s good value. What benefit to the team in letting him go? It would take twice as much cap space to replace him even if our owner was so inclined. It’s exactly the same as the Sam/Zak scenario. We lose cap space and simultaneously weaken the team.

Not if he’s replaced with a marquee.

A crisis? A dramatic statement but I think we're possibly in a crisis. A terrible start to the season would be one thing but it's a number of issues which are possibly amounting to a crisis. Things mount up.

-poor start to the season
-terrible play (you can play well and lose, but we aren't)
-once again losing one of best players (who's a marquee is only small amount appears on the cap)
-replacing quality with lesser/questionable recruitment
-Issues with Edwards (bad press/more worry concern)

I'll hold judgement till after the wire game.

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Only if he is replaced with a marquee that has come through as "club trained" otherwise any other will count as £175K on the cap.

See section 5.
