Fielden - I thought the opposite to be honest. He got smashed around in a Wigan shirt but many of our fans still blindly praised him because of his reputation and his 06 performances to help save us from relegation. Pretty sure he wasn't an 80 minute prop for us on many occasions either but maybe my memory is fading on that point. These days they would have probably taken him out of the firing line after the KO, and dropped/rested him for a bit when he was getting ragdolled every week. That might have helped him regain form and look after himself more mentally. We didn't really have the depth to do that back then and it was more the norm to stick to the same 17 every week barring injury.
he still made yards and carried on and was a beast in defence, him and Coley were the best starting prop combo in a Wigan shirt in the last 15 years easily

In 2010 I'd probably agree but not in 07, 08 or 09, then he didn't really play after 2010 due to injury IIRC. Without his past reputation he would have been dropped pre-2010.

yeah I agree, but our pack and team was generally poor in them years, Madge when he came made a huge difference, he went downhill after this as he never recovered from his injuries

Fielden was great in 2006 when he arrived.
Steady decline after that 2007, 2008, 2009 he was god awful.
Played class in 2010 and played the majority of games, starting with Coley.
Missed all of 2011 and most of 2012 with injury.

Why do we need a Prop Forward when this years squad includes 9 prop forwards.
Its a winger we badly need when we only have 2 in Manfredi and Marshall.
Bibby may fill in, but he can hardly be called a class winger.
And to think that over the years, Wigan was renown for having two top class wingers.
How many teams in reality have a top class winger in reserve? I agree it would be a nice to have but if Marshall and Manfredi are fit with Bibby as back up then we should be ok.

He went quiet for a while last time he was asked that question.
9 prop forwards, and our pack still gets smashed around. There's your answer.
