Listening to Shaun Wane on Wigan TV this week in his pre match interview, he says he sees JB as Lockers replacement when he retires. I’m clutching at straws I know, but maybe that’s an indication that he may stay after all?

did he also say "in two years, having failed in Aus and returned to the Uk with his tail between his legs?"

I’m a huge Bateman fan, think he’s absolutely quality and want him to stay as much as anyone. That said, I hope he doesn’t stay as a marquee player as in my opinion, a back rower shouldn’t be a marquee. A seven is priority.

Perhaps yes. Depends on who's available and what the new coach sees as the best course forward.

If we matched their offer there would be no decision to make as he would stay here for his daughter. He is going for the money and who can blame him. Its a massive pay rise

So you're suggesting he's leaving his daughter behind for more money? Don't you think there's more to it?

Given the current climate at the club I just can’t see rumours of Bateman being offered Marquee money as realistic.

Good player loads of heart tough as they come and totally committed. Worthy of Marquee status? Absolutely not.

I think that we haven’t had a top quality backrow in the squad since Hoffman’s spell with us clouds people’s judgement of his ability.

Decent player without doubt but putting it in perspective Isa probably an underwhelming signing but a good pro, Farrell poor, Tomkins poor, relatively speaking in that company I think his ability is somewhat magnified.

Bateman is highly rated. Only young, versatile, already an international. Chased by a number of NRL clubs. In this day and age players like that are hard to come by. If we're not in a position to use to marquee spot to bring in top talent, at least use it to secure are top stars.

Getting a bit bored with all the Bateman speculation to be honest. He's a very hard worker with some good footwork who runs and tackles his heart out. But let's get some perspective - far bigger and better players have left Wigan in the past and we've moved on. If he stays he stays, if he goes he goes.

I really don’t get u at times? Your question was what has money got to do with the Bateman transfer and I replied by saying the Canberra don’t want to pay the predetermined transfer fee. I don’t mention Marty T’Pau anywhere in the conversation. How is that being a troll?
You contribute some great points on this site but sometimes you come across like you would argue in an empty house!

Maybe I've misunderstood you, but it seems like you constantly just completely ignore or don't understand the point just to argue. This is an example.

Let's break it down.

Two issues of money.
1) wages, what can or will be paid to a player
2) money paid to sign a player.

With the marquee spot we can literally pay a player whatever.
With a transfer we can literally pay a club whatever to sign said player.

So to say we can't be in to sign Tapau isn't right. I think you might have missed the earlier posters post regarding why it would we couldn't be in for Marty if we can't keep Bateman.

LoveRugbyLeague reporting Marty Taupau is leaving Manly. A big powerful front rower, I’d be disappointed if we weren’t even looking at him and considering an offer.

Problem is, no matter how much money you throw at him, he may well not put his Heart and Soul into it.
