Not seen a great deal of him but what I have had and his reputation for me would suggest you may have signed the best under 20 backrow forward in SL. Barring injuries and the continued improvement in his game I was expecting him to be a potential future Wigan captain.

The terse comments from Peet would imply that his agent and Nicholson haven't redeemed themselves in this. If he is as good as I think he is then you may have similar problems when the Aussies come knocking for him.

I will follow his career with great interest.

Somebody said his agent is Craig Harrison and after watching recent online shows he’s been on, all I can say is he must drive a good bargain for these lads because he’s clueless when it comes to the sport. It’s incredible where confidence can get you in life.

Good luck to the lad. I honestly think he’s going to be a top player but history would strongly indicate that he would’ve had a better chance of reaching his potential here. I can see why he’s made the move however and we move on. The last few seasons, going in to this season, has really drove home to me that it will always be the coaching appointment that is the most important signing you make. We’ll have players come and go but with Matt Peet in charge, I’m confident we’ll be challenging.

Matty Peet not at all impressed judging by his comments. This does read as he thinks he should be on a better contract now whereas Peet points out the goal was for him to make his debut this season which he has.

I agree 100% with your last paragraph NK but I'm still bitterly disappointed with the loss of such potential.
Rushton, Nicholson and it sounds like KPP from 2024 for me, are huge losses to the club.
Not sure how we stem this in the future re losses to the NRL but to lose a potential "special one" to a nearby foe is even more disappointing.
I remember saying to my lads at Spurs that there were a few young lads joining in the celebrations at the end but I couldn't see Nicholson but that may have been due to my ale goggles rather than him not being there.

Looking at 2024 without any new signings potentially our starting backrow will be Farrell, Bateman plus Shorrocks or Smithies. For me this too lighweight and backups will be Nsemba and maybe McDonnell assuming that Isa and KPP will exit.
I know that Nsemba is rated very highly within the club but when I've seen him (primarily on Wigan TV) his seems to lack that little bit of a dog that most top rated players have. McDonnell was the "fringe" player that I expected to kick on this year but that hasn't occurred and I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that he may be leaving at the end of his current contract.
Obviously Peet has time to bring in fresh faces and I'm quite sure he will bring in the right players but there are no guarantees on any future signings.

Harrison is very entertaining but for all the wrong reasons on his podcast appearances.

It’s extremely disappointing to lose the kid. He’s a huge talent and to lose Rushton, now him and soon to be KPP is a kick in the teeth. We’re bringing so many young forwards through and we won’t be able to keep them all but you’d want to keep the ones you see as having the quality to eventually become top level international players. Those three have it IMO, as do Havard and Smithies. I don’t see it in guys like Shorrocks, McDonnell and Partington, as good as they may be and I think at their best they’ll be able to have good superleague careers.

As disappointing as it is to lose these lads, we’re still really well stacked. I don’t worry about a back row of Faz, Bateman and Smithies being too small tbh, not at superleague level anyway. The first 2 are probably the two best backrowers in the comp and Smithies is well on his way. Hopefully we will tie McDonnell down as there’s more good kids coming through yet. I hope the club are being proactive in getting kids like Nsemba and Hill tied down because we don’t want a repeat of this. I’d also hope the club are keeping an eye on Rushtons situation at Canberra. He’s not playing for the first team much (just a couple of appearances) and if he becomes available, I’d hope we’d not let others get a jump on us.

Him being released immediately could be a bit of a ploy. 18 year old lad still developing and now joining a team that is getting beat every week with fans calling for players and staff head and a dressing room that still has toxic cooper in it till the end of the season. Got to effect a new player massively

Edit: to be fair he’s just now taking up a spot for another lad at Wigan so probably the real reason he’s gone

But he will only be going into the Wire squad in 2023 which, suggests one of two things: they are operating at the cap level or they are bringing another player in this season. If it is the former, they are going to have to shift a lot of players if their proposed recruitment is to come off.

Presumably he’s gone now because Wigan just don’t see the point in having him around. They’ll have to work out when he plays for Newcastle, when he plays for the reserves etc etc and sort the logistics of that. It saves that headache and makes it clear that if a player doesn’t want to be at the club, they know where the door is. There’s simply no point in Wigan spending the next few months developing him for another side.

Got to admit. I loved Peets comments. It’s true though, only Saints, Wigan and Leeds know how to develop players. He’s chased the easy money at Warrington and I fully expect him to end up at Salford in a couple of years. I’m the meantime Wigan will develop someone else and therefore will be no loss

I just loved him showing he’s got that side to him. He’s been so respectful to all our opposition so far and has got a lot of praise because of it but today he’s shown that if he feels strongly about something, he isn’t afraid to drop a few grenades and speak his mind.

The only thing I don’t agree with in your post is that the kid will end up at Salford. I think he has chased the money but more so a quicker path to a first team shirt and whilst it’s not a good sign cutting corners, the lad is outstanding and even at Warrington and even under a dads army assembler like Powell, I think he’ll go very well.

My point is that Warrington will stunt his development. Had he stayed he would reach his potential
