I can't believe people preferring Hastings to Maloney. Yes, Hastings is younger, but JM is one of the best halves in world rugby. Hastings is a decent player, but in the "perhaps not quite good enough for the NRL" category. You can't say that about Maloney. Yes, his own form has been a bit poor this season, but Penrith are a car-crash at the moment, so it's hardly surprising.

Either would be a huge step up on what we have to be fair but for reasons I mentioned earlier in this thread, I’d prefer Maloney. I believe he’s proven himself at a much higher level than Hastings and at the age of 33 is far less likely to finish his contract early. My fear with Hastings is that he could really shine and be picked off by an NRL club after one season.

he was passed over the NRL due to his off field issues rather than on field. The roosters got rid of Maloney for Hastings

That’s the biggest worry though, as well as being quality on the pitch he seems to be behaving off the field and comes across very well in the media, this won’t be going unnoticed back in Oz I’m sure and if he’s not being looked at down under now he will be if he keeps it up.

we seem to not mind people acting up off the pitch
Jensen Clark Jones another big prop and either Hastings/Maloney would be good business for next season imo, I’d be letting Tautai and Navarette go if we could

I'd lose Tautai, Clubb and Navarette. Couple with losing Hamlin, then the young forwards being released. That would give us scope to sign some decent props, which we are crying out for.
Williams going frees up money in itself, even though we lose the benefit of him being homegrown on the cap. It should still free up good money to sign quality.
We are fine in the backs and back row.
