Have zero respect for Williams. Touting himself openly when under contract is one of the worst signs of disrespect to a fan base. It should stay behind closed doors. I probably think even less of him for not wanting to be coached by two of the best halfbacks to have played the game.
I agree; this should be conducted behind closed doors not in the public eye. I’m not sure if it’s deliberately disrespectful or just naivety but in either case he’s said what he’s said and for me we ought to be pushing him out the door.
If he had been in glittering form for the past two years my attitude, and likely others would be different but it hasn’t. He’s been bang average whilst earning a fortune. You can put that down to SW if you want but at the end of the day it’s the player who goes out on to that field.
Jukesays, I’m aware you say you have links to the players so appreciate that may influence what you put on here, but I can’t help feel you’re missing the point on this one.
Lam has said he wants his son and Williams playing together. Lenagan has said he wants to keep George Williams and Radlinski has said he’s an integral part of Wigan’s future so I don’t think it’s that people within the club don’t want him.
And it’s not that this is a rumour like the Warrington rumour was... George has been directly quoted by NRL.com saying he wants to play in the NRL next year and whilst it may not be what Wigan want, he would like to make a deal if a legitimate offer is there.
I think he’s quality and likewise would be gutted if he left, especially given our recent coaching appointments but this has come across as very poor form on his behalf, disrespectful to the club to be honest.
Nothing against players wanting to go to the NRL, I would in there position but it’s how you handle it. Bateman for example made it clear early on and got the clause into the last year of his contract. He’s taken it and I think I speak on behalf of most fans when I say I’m gutted to see him go but good on him, no hard feelings. Williams however has only recently signed a new marquee money deal on the back of the afromentioned rumours and now he’s coming out saying he doesn’t want to be here. I just can’t accept that and if he/his agent are just going to be generating a constant rumour mill and/or his heads not in it then he might as well f*ck off.
I haven't seen the quote but assuming it is word for word what he's said then Yes it is disrespectful. I do however think just like other situations IL has protected the club as best he can with the contract that's in place and end of the day a club is going to have to stump up some serious cash to get him out of the remaining 2/3 years. I would also be asking for the sums quoted that someone posted last year at least, and I'm not sure nrl clubs would want to do that. But bar in mind this is for a player that (IMO) has been overly criticised and going by what the most vocal fans (note I didn't say majority) is rubbish anyway. Someone will come out and say I'd bloody drive him to airport and let him go for nothing, followed by some posters writing financial mismanagement (not a dig Burt) and others then criticising IL fort not making players stick to their contracts. Either way somebody somewhere will find fault. And maybe that's where I'm just a bit more patient and prepared to wait for the outcome.
As for links to players I only speak to one and it really doesn't cloud my judgement on George previously or now. A couple of people I know though have said he's got a bit ahead of himself in a number of ways but Thats going to happen a lot when your in the public eye etc.
I speak to quite a few people who are on the backroom staff and I very rarely ask them for info, if they want to say something they will. But as I said on the Sean wane all he does is tell us to bash em thread, very rarely does more than 10% of what gets claimed on here ever pan out or mirrors what my understanding of the situations to be from what I've seen been told from people far closer to what goes on than me or most of this site/social media will ever be well that is until Prince Charles takes over and I become understudy (private joke that a few will .
Said on another thread that I don't understand the constant need to criticise and find problems that aren't there most of the time, I even more don't understand people that believe these rumours as Fact.
A little positivity can go a long way.
Saying that i don't fancy us tonight but can't wait for the game.

Don't push, make whoever pay top dollar. As for it not being SW fault, check with Dave O first
perhaps Wigan are just after making a quick buck out of him, i'm sure the contract he signed goes beyond that doesn't it, so we could demand a fee? may be wrong...
i suppose there's not much wrong with it either way, other than the loss of personnel of course. bateman is backin 2021 anyway

Link to the article is below, really did get my back up:
Trust me I agree regarding positivity, I’m constantly accused of being a “happy clapper” and I’m very rarely negative about the club or players.
But I think that’s what’s annoyed me more. I have defended Williams on this forum and in person on countless occasions regarding performance etc. Then the day after we announce two fantastic coaches who could take his game to the next level, this article appears.
Like I said, if he were to play out the rest of his contract and go in the same way as Bateman has I would have no issues. But coming out with an article like this is bad on his (and presumably his agents) part.

Which, if true, doesn't say much for the players' common sense.
When your next two coaches are sitting in the stand, it's time to impress, not sulk.
This.
I’d have hoped, and believed almost, that every single player 1-17 would turn out firing tonight on that field ready to send Lam and Edwards a message that they’re up for it and they are willing to fight for a place. By GW coming out and saying this it completely undermines any good performance he puts in as it’ll be construed by many, me included, that he is playing up for an NRL contract.
So frustrating after an absolute high that this comes out.
Will be interested to find out how his performance turns out tonight (I’m currently on holiday with no access to SKY Sports). If he has a poor game I could see the boo boys giving him some.
