I do wonder if Bibby is going to be taking up less cap that Sarge, that could be a factor.
It's easy to forget Sarge is only 26. International experience, NRL experience and can pretty much cover anywhere in the backs. He does seem more suited to FB, but is a solid centre.

Most I've seen of Bibby is as a winger, who as brutal as this sounds, it's not a standout. If it wasn't for us being linked then signing him, I wouldn't have looked twice. I can name many outside SL backs who look better, maybe it's a money thing.

Sarg out and Bibby in clearly saves cap space. The question is-are we saving that space to spend elsewhere or are we just cutting costs even further?

I’m not sure the club will spend it or be able to afford it but in cap space terms there’s no excuse for not getting the two halfbacks, a prop and a hooker that I think we need to improve us.

The club must surely realise we need to significantly strengthen in those positions? I can’t see the chairman or Rad being content with just being top 5 hopefuls every year. If they truly lack the ambition to compete for titles, we are in a very sad era.

We’ll find out soon enough. If we can get the right signings in then gaps can close very quickly. The one thing we can always hold on to when it comes to hoping we can bounce back is the production line. We’ve seen with Smithies the level of talent we’ve got coming through but they need the right quality around them. If we get that then it becomes far easier for Smithies, Harry Smith, Havard etc to develop in to the players they’re capable of becoming.

It’s as big an off seasons period of recruitment for the club as I can remember in along while.
