When talking about TV deals and what needs to be done to make the game more exciting, I really think they need to have a look at the red cards and bans they’re handing out if anyone dares throw a punch. Nobody condoned cheap shots but it’s a physical game and some of the sports most iconic moments have involved a couple of forwards going head to head. We’re not allowed those Dowling vs Tamati, Mason vs Peacock, Fielden vs McDermott moments anymore and I think that’s a shame. Not everyone will agree and the world is too PC and health and safety conscious now for it to change.
I agree. Nothing wrong with the players chucking a few every now and again.
Also bring back the shoulder tackle.
The game was always lifted by a bit of a stink in the middle of the pitch or another player dropping someone like a bad habit with a big shoulder contact.
Even the dullest games cane to life after a brawl or a shoulder charge. Now they just tend to drift till the inevitable final whistle releases the spectators from a drab affair.
