That Fitzpatrick interview was all about building interest in the opener and I’m all for it. They’re going down the boxing route of throwing a few lines out to try and get a rise. Anything to build interest is more the merrier for me.

When talking about TV deals and what needs to be done to make the game more exciting, I really think they need to have a look at the red cards and bans they’re handing out if anyone dares throw a punch. Nobody condoned cheap shots but it’s a physical game and some of the sports most iconic moments have involved a couple of forwards going head to head. We’re not allowed those Dowling vs Tamati, Mason vs Peacock, Fielden vs McDermott moments anymore and I think that’s a shame. Not everyone will agree and the world is too PC and health and safety conscious now for it to change.

I agree. Nothing wrong with the players chucking a few every now and again.

Also bring back the shoulder tackle.

The game was always lifted by a bit of a stink in the middle of the pitch or another player dropping someone like a bad habit with a big shoulder contact.

Even the dullest games cane to life after a brawl or a shoulder charge. Now they just tend to drift till the inevitable final whistle releases the spectators from a drab affair.

I get that and it was good when they first started doing it but I find this a bit laborious and lazy marketing. I don’t really give two hoots if we were back in for Gelling or if they reckon they have the better squad and I think most will probably agree. There’s ways to market a game and ways to not, this is the former. It doesn’t raise any eyebrows, doesn’t make me feel like “I have to be there” (I’ll be there anyway) nor would it get me talking about the game or build any extra excitement. At the end of the day it’s Wigan v Warrington and lazy marketing like this just takes the shine off it for me.

I haven’t got an issue with that but they shouldn’t be making stuff up to do it. They’re turning into a tabloid paper

So they are gonna get a clean sweep against us are they
Well nowt better than a bit of motivation for our lads
Well it’s their year again so they say but this time it WILL be their year
They have been dark horses so many times it’s time they adopted the black beauty tune when they come out of the changing rooms

Few suggestions on Twitter that Catalans are looking at Ben Flower and that new signings are imminent,

If anyone is leaving it will be Navarrette, the fact he's been picked to play with the kids says it all to me he obviously doesn't feature in Lammys plans but you never know, one team who needs a prop are Hull KR as Mose Masoe ain't going to be playing anytime soon and a change of scenery may do Navarrette some good

I’m pleased as I think Flower and the other forwards will benefit from the addition of Burgess.

With regard to Gelling, it was made absolutely clear by members of the coaching set up before he left that Wigan were glad to see the back of him and to say this publicly to supporters spoke volumes to me. I think some supporters were clearly influenced by online persona but it was made clear the reality was very different.

I like Gelling as a player, very entertaining and I think he will suit Warrington.
