Surely Mr Lenagan would not be stupid enough to give Tony Smith the Head Coach job, Big Nose simply is not good enough and could see attendances drop even further

I agree, that would be a terrible appointment from a fan point of view. I do trust the club to get this right though.

The Winder for one year and Edwards 2020 would be a total disgrace. I get we want Edwards but he needs to work under a Head Coach for a few seasons.

The only way I can see Edwards in 2020 is if he joins as an assistant.

As for the Mamo rumour; no thanks. Injury prone and we don’t need him. Oh how I long for us to be linked to signing a decent prop instead of more backs we don’t need.

John Winder is an interesting one for me because a lot of people are asking for an NRL assistant, which is exactly what he was. 3 years at Melbourne under Craig Bellamy. Just because he is operating under Wane doesnt mean he agrees with the style and I am increasingly open to having a year with Winder at the helm.

The problem that creates is what happens if we win the lot next year? How can we then ask his to step aside for Shaun Edwards in 2020

Edwards would be an unbelievable signing. He wouldn’t need to learn the job. He would be an instant hit. And the Wigan public would get behind him.
I’ll put up with one season without him if he comes in 2020.
After all, I’ve been bored for the past three years so one more wont kill me.

Winder is our only asst coach. So if he were to become head coach who will be his assistants? He can't do it all on his own.
An untried head coach with one or two untried assistants? Not ideal.
As said, wouldn't it be great if they won the double or so. Mr Edwards would be, yet another, asst coach.

How long ago was Winder at Melbourne? I think part of the thinking by SL teams looking to pick up a quality NRL assistant is that they are bringing in fresh ideas and that these coaches are often ahead of the curve in comparison to current thinking in SL.

I think IL made this point following the appointment of Maguire and I do wonder how much things may have kicked on again since Winder was an assistant at Melbourne?

I don’t understand the attraction with having Edwards as coach,he’s been out of RL now for as long as he was in it. He needs to earn his stripes at a championship side first for a year or two before he comes anywhere near Wigan IMO
