The Nicholson departure has been confirmed by the club with immediate effect. Gutted with that one but you probably can’t blame the lad, potential to get into the team immediately and a better prospect of a regular place going forward and rumours of a big money contract offered.

Ratchford has signed a contract extension at Wire so that’s a rumour out to bed.

Fair play to the lad, money talks. Apparently the Dolphins were in for him. I’d of much rather have gone there than to Warrington to be honest. Still probably more likely to win something than at wire



Hopefully this will get Wigan focusing on who to tie down long term.

Yeah, no hard feelings and we can’t expect IL to spend big bucks on a second row who can’t make our match day squad and is currently way down the pecking order, no matter how much potential he has.

Probably a combination of money and a clearer path to the first team - you definitely can't say that moving to Warrington at the moment gives you a better chance of winning things. Its a shame but I do sympathise with the challenge that Wigan face - if more SL clubs brought through the number of young players that Wigan do then the English domestic and international game would be in a far better place.

The big one will be ensuring Morgan Smithies is here on a longer term basis - if we lose both Nicholson and Smithies that would be a serious blow.

I'm pretty much stunned with this news.
I assume that he had agreed a deal for next year with Wire so we have binned him early.
If KPP goes in 2023 that will be another significant loss.

Hi all, wire fan here. Must admit i don't know much about him but he seems highly rated from what i've read and Wigan fans i've spoke to. Is he as good as i'm hearing or have we done the usual trick of throwing loads of money about and made a bad choice in your oppinion?

All depends on what you're paying him really

Not seen a great deal of him but what I have had and his reputation for me would suggest you may have signed the best under 20 backrow forward in SL. Barring injuries and the continued improvement in his game I was expecting him to be a potential future Wigan captain.

The terse comments from Peet would imply that his agent and Nicholson haven't redeemed themselves in this. If he is as good as I think he is then you may have similar problems when the Aussies come knocking for him.

I will follow his career with great interest.

Somebody said his agent is Craig Harrison and after watching recent online shows he’s been on, all I can say is he must drive a good bargain for these lads because he’s clueless when it comes to the sport. It’s incredible where confidence can get you in life.

Good luck to the lad. I honestly think he’s going to be a top player but history would strongly indicate that he would’ve had a better chance of reaching his potential here. I can see why he’s made the move however and we move on. The last few seasons, going in to this season, has really drove home to me that it will always be the coaching appointment that is the most important signing you make. We’ll have players come and go but with Matt Peet in charge, I’m confident we’ll be challenging.

Matty Peet not at all impressed judging by his comments. This does read as he thinks he should be on a better contract now whereas Peet points out the goal was for him to make his debut this season which he has.
