I wouldn’t be too harsh on the kid though. He was superb at Salford and against Hull and he’s followed that up with a couple of ordinary performances. He’s frustrating at times and a joy to watch at others but I’d much rather he played for us then against us. It’s up to Wane to get more out of him.

I know this is going to be controversial and am prepared to be shot down in flames but my impression is that Williams has not played anywhere near as well since Matty Smith left, he looked far better alongside Smith as Smith was doing the organising and doing most of the long kicking leaving Williams more freedom to concentrate on his own game. I am not saying Smith was great but as a partnership it seemed to work better (maybe it was also a time related thing as they had played alongside each other far more than Williams has anyone else alongside him since).
