Responsibility for local grassroots development was given to the clubs a few years ago (about 2014 if memory serves). It’s up to the SL club to get involved and develop its own area with coaching sessions/school visits/coach education/coaching courses etc. If the RFL were to do this then each club would have to have reduced central funding to do this. That’s why at the last TV deal there was a decent figure given directly by Sky to each clubs’ Foundation.

All of that happens school visits, coach sessions etc but it’s all pretty meaningless if the basics aren’t in place and the club itself doesn’t exist- or are you saying SL clubs should set up amateur clubs now? Oh and crucially -something there currently isn’t- safeguarding and coaching courses- which have to be provided for clubs to exist.

Yes. The SL clubs are in charge of amateur development in their area. They take the central funding that would otherwise need to be spent on it.

It’s a choice for the clubs. Either do the development or give the money back.

The clubs do their bit- IMO The RFL do not.

OR, as in the case of Toronto...do the development and pay for it totally yourselves since we give you no central funding whatsoever, like we do to everyone else......

Answer: Not a problem, we in Toronto will do it anyways because its good for the game....no money issues on this end....stuff is growing on the trees over here. Lots of dough, money EVERYWHERE!

money EVERYWHERE Canoeman the leagues you play in are mostly part time players, Some players have a past they may regret the visa issues in your country make this public is that in your opinion fair. Super league is a different game if Toronto are allowed to play a block of home games and then a block of games away is that in your opinion fair Catalan are not allowed to and look how they suffer. Brian Noble has tried this new team before on the Welsh border and that did not work. If Toronto play to the rules that we all abide by against full strength Super League team if you can do that then welcome to Super League but the way the Canadians are going about it is doomed to failure ,Paul Rowley and Brian Noble are not the mesia they are just very naughty boys.

Totally agree Superleague/championship teams are going to fall foul of Canada’s Visa Laws whilst at least in France they can take a full team.

You can’t have a competition where teams can’t field their strongest available team away from home when relegation could destroy a club.

Sorry the RFL should come out and stop this nonsense, but if they don’t you can see why the Superleague clubs now want to control their own destiny.

Also if Toronto can’t comply with a regular season fixture list and play in Canada to the same pattern of home and away as the other teams whats the good of a Canadian based team full of English and Australians players playing in the UK to sparse crowds it beggars belief !!

What happens for instance if the million pound game is in Toronto say v Widnes and Widnes can’t take their best team ?? No wonder the RFL/Toronto PR machine has gone quiet because it shows the RFL as the joke it has become !!

Now that Huddersfield are not involved hopefully people will see that this is my true opinion and it’s about time the RFL stopped destroying the game I love for expansion ideas that are nonsense !!

EVERYTHING ABOUT THE GAME EXPERIENCE TODAY VERSUS ROCHDALE GOES AGAINST THE POINTS IN YOUR POST...YOU ARE TOTALLY INCORRECT. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO A GAME AT TORONTO TO GET THE FACTS IN MAKING A FAIR AND IMPARTIAL JUDGEMENT? Let me guess; NO.

Seeing as we have never played Toronto it’s rather unlikely but then why would I fly across the Atlantic, fortunately I can afford the cost of doing so, to see a game played between 17 non Canadians posing as a Canadian team and 90% of the time a weakened team due to Visa issues ? Get 6/8 Canadians playing in your team, a structure to bring Canadian youth into the game, then come back to the table because without the aim being a Canadian League and National team there is no point to Toronto Wolfpack.

Have you been to a game in England ?

Why should the game experience in Toronto be any better than say Widnes or Castleford where I can hop in my car and travel too and from in the same day?

It’s a four day trip to Toronto to accommodate a few thousand ‘Canadians’if this is the future of rugby league ‘God help it’ !!

I repeat Toronto bring nothing to the table for the average Rugby League supporter I would far rather go to Odsal today to watch Bradford play York where there will be home and away support which is what Rugby League is about not empty stands in a stadium where the away support should be because if people won’t travel from France they certainly won’t from Canada and mate if you don’t travel with your team home and away it’s you that’s not getting the game experience as watching your team play away every other week is a big part of supporting your team and enjoying the game and every supporter should be able to follow their team if they want to not ‘oh I can’t go this weekend cos it’s Canada’

So are you saying that Fartown 1961 is wrong about everything, What about the visa issue, is that sorted.

I don't thing anyone over here wishes Toronto any Ill will, but i do think you are making the very big mistake of thinking that enthusiasm will overcome any problems that crop up, Much the same as many people over here who are desperate to see the game expand ( which it needs to do ) shout down anyone who raises any kind of concern .

The fact is the RFL has a long history or rushing headlong into moves that almost always turn out badly. Don't forget that people over here, some who have watched the game for 70 years have seen these expansion efforts before, We have seen and heard all the hype many times.
We don't want you to fail, we just want you to succeed the right way, But no amount of talking yourself up or reminding us how poor we are at everything is going to help, It needs doing right.

If you look at the Lamport Stadium photos on the net it’s like a very old soccer ground two open concrete blocks and two flat areas behind the goals. Could well be the Rugby League helps keep it viable and it has a capacity of less than 10,000.

Another artificial pitch no thank you !!

If Wakey and Cas need a new ground then so do Toronto because Wheldon Road looks a proverbial palace against the Toronto ground oh and the pitch looks a million miles better than artificial turf too.

The RFL really don’t think things out do they.

I’m not against expansion if it’s right but as Jumbuck says we’ve all worn that T shirt before and any expansion team should have at least 8 home grown players in their 17 to make it worthwhile for the game and fair to both S/L and Championship teams.

I’m sorry Canoeman but until those bridges are built Toronto should not qualify for promotion or play in the UK leagues. There is a dome to allow the field to be used for practice in the Winter so why not play in a domed stadium ??

Lots of ifs and buts here when you look into it but then the RFL will have seen the good headlines not the realistic ones.... which is typical.
