A Wake at Wakey : Mon Jul 18, 2022 12:17 am
Just visited the Wakey RLFANS site and there is definitely doom and gloom in the air. Chezzy is getting the blame from many of the fans, even though he left in August 2021. After 12 months I would have thought it was Poching who was responsible for their current plight. Should they get relegated it is going to be difficult for them to re-establish themselves as a genuine SL team. Do plans for a rebuild of the stadium get put on hold? How are they going to fund a full-time team in the Championship?

Every season Leigh get relegated the bones of the squad get picked apart by the vultures, maybe it is Leigh's turn to peck away at the carcass of an established SL team. I am sure there are some names in Chezzy's little black book. Could we see a 3rd stint of Liam Hood?

First game was in 1967, and have been hooked since day 1. Now live in Vancouver, Canada but follow our team any way I can.

IMHO Chris Chester is the only reason they stayed in SL as long as they did, on what I’m sure was a significantly lesser player budget. In the off season and this season, they have had the SL funding to put together a team that could have included many of the players that now wear our shirt, but they have not. Now that could well be Chris Chester’s fault
Bottom line, they do not have the players or the game management to be anywhere other than where they are now.
I have also wondered previously if we will see Hoody back, and I would not be opposed to an Ipape/Hood partnership.
I wish them all the best, as I would rather see them in SL over Toulouse, but to blame CC is ridiculous.

I think we have moved on from Hood now time to go forwards not backwards.

Binosh, this is not a backwards step. Hood was captain and the front line hooker last season. In the new team, Hood would be junior partner to "Oh Edwin Ipape". That is a forward step in my opinion.

If we're in superleague next season, then hopefully we steer well clear of Liam Hood. Was a big fan of him a few years ago and was a good servant for us.

However, he was poor last season and has been poor this season. He isn't Superleague quality any more and thats a fact. Not to mention he looks unfit and out of shape.

Smith and Ipape are both fitter, fresher and better than him.

Can’t believe this. He was in a very poor side last season, and has been one of their better players this season. Have seen many of his close to the line tries on the Superleague show this season. Definitely an upgrade on Smith.

Guess we'll agree to disagree on this one. Bell, Brierley, Mellor and Sidlow all played in a very poor side last season, didn't stop them from standing out. Josh Eaves came in late in the season in said poor team and still outperformed Hood.

Also, I'm sure Wakefield fans will question your logic of him being one of their best players this season! I maintain that Smith is better than him, with more years left in the tank.

If we are to achieve Derek's aim of being a top 8 Superleague side, Liam Hood should be nowhere near our squad.

Chester is the reason we are at bottom of S L For the last 3 years he as brought in championship players way past there sell by date and injury prone when they came Chester even spent just about all the cash for this season before is went One of the players is out on loan at Fetherstone and Gaskell as been that bad he as been out of the squad for the last 3 week and was out the first 8 games injured . When Chester took over he took over from B Smith (you must remember him ) so the team was very fit and well organised ,I Kear was directer of foot ball and things seemed good When Kear left the team started going backwards big time and we saw Chesters coaching skill for what they were none existent The fans were calling for him to go 3 year ago when all these championship players were been signed So this as nothing to do with W Poaching After 3 years of signing championship players on long contracts we are going down Most fans are saying at least we will be rid of the Championship player that put us were we are All the best for the rest of the season See you next year
