Wanderer, good evening. Bongser has been scratching his noggin all day as to how a Don mon knows about 'Iggy. He wonders if, perchance, you are a displaced person.

He, from your shark avatar and your visits to manifold forums, assumed that "Wanderer" was a username that referred to wandering sharks but, after exfoliating his fod (now more a midled) all day, he now wonders if you are really a refugee from West o' t' 'ill. Is the grey Wanderer really a Gandalfian white Wanderer? A man of the West?

If not, it seems that this weekend sees Donny's turn to tonk the West Walian Whipping Boys. What's your pred on that? :thumb:

Morning B&B,

A foot in both camps (Lancs and Yorks). Mum originally from Bolton and Dad from Doncaster. I live in Donny, as did the parents as it's where they met.

Mum's family were all Wanderers supporters and Dad took me to my first RL match (at Tattersfield). Hence, allegiances were forged. I remain a season ticket holder of both the Wanderers and the Dons.

My prediction for Sunday is that we won't score as many points as York or Bradford.

Charlie, the height of the tower is 518 ft 9 inches, but according to Google was modelled on the Eiffel Tower which in summer grows taller by nearly 7 inches (hence winter or summer). Google also states that 1990 was the last time animals where used in the circus.

Google doesn't have a clue on the score predictions for some reason..

Correct on BOTH questions Atomic though I'm aghast you resorted to Google :o I though a learned man as yer good self would trust his grey matter.

I was privileged to be at the Tower on its last performance in 1990, and shed a tear with my old mate Norman Barrett, the year after Mrs Caroli performed in the ring at the Pleasure Beach Circus, riding a horse whilst stood up  I kid you not there.Blackpool has never been the same since the demise of the Tower Circus.Mooky not a patch on Charles Cairoli.

Furthermore, Charlie, when question setting you should define your criteria. Height above sea level - is the tide in or out?If you'd allowed "to the nearest furlong" that would have covered all bases.

Quick reminder of your predictions on this weekend’s rearranged games from back in the day. The Rochdale vs Batley game was postponed on Week One of the season when we were a mere six:

Atomic: 24-12
Charlie: 16-24
Cokey: 16-22
Van L: 14-20
Bongser: 10-24

By the time the Sheffield vs London game was called off we were up to 12 posters though Van the Man missed out that weekend (was it the time he was playing Uncle Bryn with his neplew? )

Pubbers: Sheffield 14-24
LeytherX111: 6-42
Cokey: 10-46
Charlie 14-34
Zools: 6-32
Atomic: 6-40
WLJ: 6-32
Bongser: 8-36
Diggers: 12-32
SBS: 10-32
Wanderer: 6-36

Weekly Prediction League Round-Up for Round Minus 18!!
“Here we go again!” – in the words of Paul & The Bolton Sound. Bongser was wondering if he’d get away with awarding Wanderer extra points after this week’s revelations. As it happens, he’s done pretty well unaided this week. :thumb:

This round sees an historical theme for your lack of amusement.

Whilst only the present nine walkers will get the attendance point, we were joined by the three barrow wights again. In absentia, they picked up points from historical posts as we had three games rearranged from earlier in the season. This means that EVERYBODY’S scores will go up this week. Huzzay!

This week’s pred scores are complicated by the historical games, by a larger number of puntables and by a relatively complex bonus. Bongser is now posting what he thinks are your scores though, as he has been drinking, he will give everyone until 7pm on Tuesday to howl their dissent (and see if Atomic PM’s him with any reports of impious behaviour & shenanigans) before awarding the WWB and posting the standings. Speak within that timeframe or forever hold your peace (was tempted to misspell the last word with a homophone).

Okay. This week’s matches first.

On four games there were clean sweeps for all the attendees with wins for Hull FC, Cats, Wigan & Warrington. There was nearly a wipe-out though in “Tie Three” as only Cokey saw a Bladdersveldt victory. But there was not to be a Cokey-Pokey-mon.

On correct conquerors (more of that later), Bongser has us down thus:

7 – Pubbers, Zools, SupaWhiteShark & Bongser (14 points each for that)
6 – Cokers, Atomic, WLJ & Chuck (12 apiece)
5 – Van the Man (ten for the (adopted Canadian) men). Again, more of that later!

Did you spot the first line of the post? A record number of correct margins this week – SIX!!!

SupaWhite wrecked this post by getting the correct margin (+46) of the Cats vs ‘Haven tie. Three points for that and a further three points for the correct margin of the Cas vs Saints game (MINUS 18 - i.e. the away team won by 18).
WLJ was also in good form with two minus 18s for away wins for Hull FC & The Pahs (6 further points).
The other two correct minus 18s came from Pubbers (HFC again, plus 3) & Bongser (Hollanders again, plus 3).

Mixed bag in the “Historics”. Had VL not been on his fishing trip we may have had a full twelve apostle clean sweep on the Eagles vs Broncos match. He was missing for another match but nailed the winner of the one for which he was in attendance back in the day.

All Three (6 points): Charlie & Bongser (the latter therefore getting 10/11 victors – much good did it do him!)
Two outta three (4 points): Pubbers, Zools, Cokey, WLJ, LeytherX111 & Sabbers
The one (2 points): VeaL, Atomic, SupaWhite & Diggers.

Which brings us to the “mis-timed” tackle of BBQ!
Charlie has twice posted that he’s no good with this tie thing (or words to that effect), however he (and Atomic) did better than most in predicting that the winners of Tie 2 would be drawn against the winners of Tie 4. They both twi-tied it but only got one correct winner from those ties, so 5 bonus points without the further 20.

WestLeighJim either didn’t understand BBQ or CBA-ed with it but he “stooled” to conquer! He predicted that the winners of Tie 6 would, in the next round, play the winners of......wait for it.......Tie 6. He is, however allowed to play (polite cough and a-tissue) himself (Bongser was careful there) as, with his scattergun, spread betting approach he nailed two next round ties (not twinned) on which he had predicted the correct winner. Dix points! Huzzay thrice times three. :ROCKS:

Bongser, as earlier advertised, sees THIS WEEK’S provisional scores (including the attendance point where applicable, but pre-WWB) as:

WLJ gets 33
Charlie & Bongser get 24
Wanderer gets 23
Pubbers gets 22
Atomic gets 20
Zulu gets 19
Cokey gets 17
Vancouver gets 13
The barrow wights lined up in a good old-fashioned 4-4-2 with Diggers up front.

The best result of the extended weekend was, of course, Leigh beating an SL team from the other end of the guided busway. There was another enjoyable one today though with the Alumni ‘enjoying home advantage at Warrington’. Three of the OLD BOYS chipped in with ten points in the first half to see the Trannies trail at that point by only two. But then the second period saw the real Wolves score 54 unanswered points and another player to have been on Leigh’s books (though without a Heritage number – unless he posts on this thread  ) personally clock up nearly double the Tranny Pack-It-Ins’ score.

One in the eye for Rowls (on 'is orse wi' 'is 'awk in 'is 'ond) as much of the same team (when younger - ie not then old boys) made a much better fist of it in the CCup at the Halliwell Jones.

There was a Duke of Normandy, later to become William the Conqueror, who was known as William the Ba$tard. There was also another, earlier, Duke called Rollo who, in a play partly accredited to Jonson, was known as The Blo0dy Brother. Rollo was killed by one of those he betrayed. Maybe Perez picked the wrong man from the Jukes box.

10-66

and all that

Good eventide, Gents. As we are speaking of scoo, on Friday, Bongser got back from work to Athy in time to see the second half of the game in the pub. By chance he bumped into his old Geog teacher (last met at Cousin Bongser's 21st ding-dong do) and then sat with said Salford fan    and reminded him of some of the names that he used to abuse his pupils with (to every one of which he replied, "I wouldn't get away with that nowadays"). Examples:

Bog Brush (to a lad with a spike (hair-do))
Amoeba Brain
Mentally Deficient Rodent
Bum Loofah

When Oggy handed in some (just before the lesson) playground homework, "Sir" held the corner of the book open at the relevant page (third of a page of writing, the rest a poor diagram), we were treated to,

"Oggy, what's this burnt offerin', didja sprinkle it with 'oly water and expect it to turn into an essay?"

Even though he's not of our tribe, he should be on the Legends Wall.

His boss at the time was a humourless cove by the name of Mr Kerr. Someone circulated the rumour that Mr Kerr's mother was Spanish and that his given name was Juan. Enough of Scoo days. The standings (including westleighjim's WWB of 25 (bravo, Sirrah):

Atomic 384
Chuckles 370
Pubbers 332
Wanderer 320
WLJ 290
Bongser 279
Zools 278
Cokey 258
Van Leythe 196
Didgeridoo 112
Ex Leythe 98
Special Boat Service 20

Bongser intended to post this last night but, alas, was too Juan Kerr-ed!

Another early start this weekend, you lovely punters beginning with a Saturday, quarter to one kick off for a slightly controversial tie and followed by a chance for some revenge and another reel in for our boys:

Toulouse XX-YY Tranny Pack-It-Ins
Feathersflyin' XX-YYY Leigh
Batley XX-YY Rochdale
Halifax XX-YY Dewsbury
London XX-YY Sheffield
Swinton XX-YY Barrow

To BBQ: We meet Ridy this weekend, a fellah that kicked us into SL. But, begorrah bejabus, Reynolds seems to have found his kicking boots this season. So....

How many points in total will come (DIRECTLY) from the boot in the Fev vs Leythe game this weekend? Worth five!

ONLY IF YOU ARE CORRECT ON THE ABOVE, how many from a Leigh boot (or boots)? Further TEN!!

That should make it a bit easier for Bongser this week!!

Good luck & Go Leythe :thumb:
