Does this explain why Powell not too fussed about Ellis Longstaff?

Yeh, certainly looks like it mate doesn’t it. Interesting times….

Longstaff is still pretty decent. I’m sure they’ll both be figuring in Powell’s plans for the future. Hughes will be off at the end of the year and Currie the next (depending on form and if anyone comes in for him sooner). I trust Powell’s judgement on young talent and I’m glad we’re not throwing all our eggs in the NRL basket.

Can`t see Powell offering Currie a new contract, even if he regains some form, unless he is prepared to accept a significant pay drop for 2024 onwards.

He’s already took a big drop in his last contract.
Currie is a great versatile player. He like every other outside back/backrower is playing with a beaten pack. There has been no weight up front.
I’m not convinced we’ve enough depth to maintain the ‘possible’ improvement v Hull, of which the jury is still out on. We'll see v Salford.
We’ll see some ability again on 2023.

OK, but you fail to mention his defence.

He is a forward, he should be able to tackle.

He is also tackled far too easily by players much smaller than him that he has the stature to beat.

When you’re behind a beaten pack you fail at almost every level through fatigue.
Can you honestly point out a single player in our team that had played better than any time of their career this season? Even Wrench and Thewlis have been way off the stand out mom performances of last season.

Currie is not a back.

He is a forward, he is currently our worse forward.

I didn’t say he was ‘
“a back”.
I said he is a back/backrower. He’s a very useful versatile player.
He’s played in the outside backs, halves and a running forward.
With the space created by having props that draw defences, he will can terrorise. He’s looks spent, but so have countless players in poor teams. I really expect him to shine in 2023.

I think we'll forever be waiting for Currie to get back to his best. It's never going to happen.

Well he has the start of 2023 to impress and prove doubters wrong.

A very good signing for Wire, I've watched Nicholson coming through the scholarship and academy at Wigan and he is a great prospect. I'm not sure if he is best suited to 2nd row or loose forward.
From a Wigan p.o.v. I'm really sorry to see him go but he has a lot of competition in front, around and pushing him.
Farrell, Bateman, Isa, Smithies, McDonnell, KPP and Nsembo are also fighting for those places, so he probably has an easier pathway to 1st team at Wire.
Really disappointed to see him leave but good luck to him
