2011. You finished top and failed to make OT.

We finished 2nd and lost to Saints the night after

Leeds won it from 5th for first time.

Yeah 2011.
Tough call on Myler, but we’d been robbed by the Rob Burrow no try.
Not many gave us a chance that night, even our own fans……..me included!

That game could have gone either way and its the Wire equivalent for me of England losing on penalties to the Germans in Italia 90 and Euro 96: so close and you'd have to think we would have had a great chance in the final. I'd have fancied 2011 Wire against 2011 Saints at Old Trafford more than any of the other GFs we made against Leeds or Wigan.

I felt more deflated after that defeat than I did after any of the GFs. It comes second on my all time biggest Wire disappointments, the only one bigger was the playoff in 2005 when we had Andrew Johns and went down so tamely to Hull at home.

2011 gets seen as our peak year because we racked up a lot of big scores annihilating teams but I think we were actually a better team in 2012 when we had Hill and Waterhouse.

One of the best games I’ve witnessed. Tough call on Burrow, but we also had done enough to win the game. Games like that shouldn’t be decided by penalties, if Sinfield had put that drop goal over from 40 out way out on the right, then fair enough that would have been top class, but a penalty with 2 to go is just awful.

Still haunts me this one, but if anyone has it in them, the full game is available online…

Best RL game I’ve watched. Remember it like yesterday. I thought it was a tough call on Monaghan for a try too. The Ryan Hall intercept turned that game on its head……

I think that game sealed in my head that play off rugby and regular season rugby are effectively different sports. While Leeds had been gathering a bit of form, they had been pretty ordinary in the season. But the steel in them just kept them in it.

I think even the most biased of fans would agree that Warrington and Wigan were head and shoulders above the rest that year. But neither made it to the big one.

In hindsight, maybe the “Club Call” came back to bite us given Leeds’ pedigree.
