Not seen any further news with regards where Wire will be training in the future, now that the University Campus is officially for sale.

Another issue for the Wire hierarchy to sort out, possibly incurring a lot of cash. given the investment that the club made at Padgate:-

Think they have already been doing a lot of training at Victoria Park.

I'm not too convinced that they've been training at all over the last 6 weeks....

Looks like Vicky Park has been identified as preferred choice, with levelling up funding used... Not sure about levelling up funding being used by a professional sports team to provide facilities (even if it will be used by PDRL etc).

Still also not sure about adding more buildings to a flood plain, could be in a similar position to Leeds a few years back.

https://www.warrington.gov.uk/news/warrington-submits-ps47m-levelling-bid

The council has submitted three bids, totalling almost £47million, for Round 2 of the Levelling Up Fund, introduced by the government to support town centre and high street regeneration, local transport projects, and cultural and heritage assets.

Bid 1 focuses on ‘Levelling Up Health and Wellbeing in Warrington South’, with plans to improve health and wellbeing through three cultural and leisure facilities:

A new flagship, inclusive sports centre at Victoria Park, providing regionally-important accessible facilities, designed with people with disabilities in mind. Plans include a new indoor wheelchair sports hall, a new artificial grass pitch and a new Warrington Wolves training facility – supporting women’s, men’s, youth, physical and learning disability teams.

I have previously posted regarding this.

The River Mersey overflow in Warrington is Victoria Park, the flood protection walls along Knutsford Road are built higher than the park elevation. The road into Victoria Park has a ramp that is higher than the park.

In the event of extraordinary high river levels, there are floodgates, that are opened to deliberately flood the park, instead of the roads and households in the vicinity.

We'll only need somewhere that's open for a couple of days per week.
