I’ve no issue with anyone leaving.
So long as they’ve planned for the vacancy.

I was one of those who had been a critic of Hill in his last years as captain but then last year I started to come back round on him and was very opposed to us letting him go.

Although my criticism of Hill wasn't that he was a bad player, just that he had gone through an inverse Lee Briers journey, where he started his Wire career as the seasoned pro, top 2 or 3 at his position in SL, and then as time went on he transformed more into the raw talent with potential but tendency to let himself get distracted. It was probably because he was feeling the mounting frustration that most of us fans had felt over the way things had gone in recent seasons and that was how it came out. Certainly you couldn't question his commitment.

I think the Hill of 2017 to 2021 was not the same force as the Hill of 2012 to 2016 but he was still one of the better props in SL.

100% agree with this, I view his career with us exactly the same way. The captaincy was a mistake, he was a leader without the armband and the armband seemed to make him think his role in the team had changed and it just hadn't.

I wanted him to stay for this season but as someone has mentioned all things come to an end at some point and we simply need to have the flexibility in the cap to allow for the future in his position. That said if we don't sign a proper replacement prop at the end of the season I will be furious we didn't offer the 2 year contract, we simply need to recruit very, very well in the front row at the end of this season or there is no justification for letting him go.

I think I saw an interview with Hill where he basically said he felt it was time to move on so maybe it was always going to be tough to keep him and he needed a change of scenery which is fair enough. I think in terms of longevity and overall contribution he is the number 1 Warrington front rower of my time following Wire, ahead of Morley, Carvell, Wood, Cooper and Nutley.

Hill would be first name on my team sheet for every game. What you see is what you get ,rarely injured ,consistent & fully committed to doing his best for his employer. Hill has been a shining light amid the antipodean dead wood that has drifted the way of the Wire in recent seasons & will be hard to replace .

He had decided in the first few weeks of last season he was leaving. I don't think there was anything we could have done to keep him.

Just my opinions unless it's a FACT, in which case it's a fact.

The ultimate professional is Chris and he certainly doesn’t owe us anything. I suppose his form next season is the acid test as to whether we should have offered a 2 year contract (whether he would have taken it is another matter of course).

I see you're being linked with Kasiano and Dudson from Catalans. Both will be 32 by the time next season starts, Dudson four months off 33. Idle speculation from the Manchester Evening News perhaps or a sign of a change of heart and Wire seeing the Hill decision as a mistake? I'm a big fan of Kasiano, he could end up getting better and better as he ages, like Paul Anderson did. Dudson not so much, never seems to run how a guy his size should.

Catalans might be in a spot of bother if they both go however, that's a lot of their size gone. With it being harder than ever to sign players from the NRL, it seems a bad move on their part.

Do we know with any certainty we did not offer a 2 year deal?

I'd be good with Kasiano off the bench and to be fair Dudson is an ok prop, and we could do much worse. Catalans have signed Taukeiaho so that makes up for the Loss of Dudson. They just need another prop to be fair.
We've made a great start with signing Tanginoa for our forward pack so will be great to see who else we bring in.
