Totally agree with Moe, his performances have dropped below the debateable "well someone's got to do the hard yards" to uninspiring and whilst the Captain is not always your best player in terms of raw talent, they should be able to inspire others and influence the pattern of play and performance levels during a game.

We've not seen any evidence of this so a bit of a mystery/missed opportunity IMO and with a full squad he's not in my13.

That’s something I hadn’t considered when I posted about Powell maybe having an effect on Hughes. I think I too would probably have a different starting second row. Currie, Holmes and maybe Magoulias locking. That looks like a very dynamic and also creative back 3.

I like the look of that back 3 too.

it's all if's but's and injuries (although Powell teams don't seem to suffer in that regards :D ) it'll be interesting to hear people's opinions on the 13 and the just as importantly the bench. If Walker gets a spot who are the other three all things being equal.

Worth its own thread but we've plenty of 'squaddies' that will hopefully be pushing the 13 from the bench and our Captain may be under pressure for a 14-17 berth, which can't be right can it? .

Happy enough with Hughes. Had a set back with his injury play wise but that didn’t affect his role of captain. He’s no worse than Hill. The game skipper is always the halves anyway.
once a wire always a wire

I agree that the halves should be the leaders in terms of game direction, but I think the issues people are raising with Hughes is whether he can rally the team round behind the sticks when we go a score behind with 5 minutes to go on the clock. I agree Hill wasn’t much use in that regard either, as good as he was at prop.

I don't really think Hughes should be captain, I don't think he should be in the starting squad to be honest. Not unless Powell has taught him how to pass the ball to his centre. I would be far happier to see him at 13 but he still needs to be able to pass from there. Too many moves end with Jack Hughes, I'd prefer to see Longstaff play over him and magoulias promises something different so I want to see him as well. Friendlies will be a decent indication of whether magoulias and Holmes fit the team well.

If we go a score behind with five minutes on the clock, I want the halves ,(and Ratchford and Clark) coming up with and explaining the plan, not someone shouting and screaming like Mel Gibson in Braveheart.

I really don't think who wears the armband is a big deal, I just want us to make smarter decisions in key games which requires all 17 to have their brains switched on.

Depends what you're looking for.

Burgess, Ellis and Thaiday for strenth and being a nother prop.

If you want the whole package then Lockers is the best right now.
