Yes ... they were poor. We didn't even need our wingers and just went through them.

I watched that episode of the coaching manual.
I don't know if this was me reading into what he said based on what I think but he appeared to be saying that we stay in the grind and we know towards the end of a game we will get a roll on, and finish the games off.
That is great when the ball stays in play and we keep posession and complete and it is a fast game with few stoppages.
Smart teams over the years have recognised that this plays into the hands of the likes of D Clark and Hull FC in the past and Huddersfield last week showed that if you slow the game down and create stoppages in play we struggle to gain that momentum where the defenders can't cope with the speed of the game.
You saw the difference between widdops reaction to the high tackle that was get up and restart play ASAP compared to Kenny Edwards last week when there was a 2 minute stoppage to get a breather.
We struggle against a defence that is able to have a breather every now and then
I will be surprised if cas don't try and slow things down in the semi final

We are starting to look like we will be 'there or thereabouts' come the important bit of the season. That's stage one, but Price has managed to pass stage one pretty much every year.

Stage two is winning the close knock-out games where the team's mettle is truly tested and there are periods of the game where you don't get your own way. This is where Price's Warrington have tended to come up short: failing to take advantage of periods of the game where we have been on top, and coming unstuck when the opposition gets its role on. We will only know if we have made any progress when we play in that sort of game, starting in the semi-final.

And he's won two of those in three years in the Cup. And he's won a GF semi final qualifier or whatever it's called nowadays. He's lost one cup semi final, two finals and a couple of earlier play off games. And he's won one final. There or thereabouts is not wrong.

It's the manner of the last 2 play off defeats that are the huge negative for Price.

On both occasions, the side simply froze and were beaten, both times, by 2 opponents who didn't have to do anything special to beat us.

Deep down, we & most RL fans know we have a very talented squad - arguably, the best in the league. The sticking point is that we are weighed down by expectation and, I suspect, we will never clear the final hurdle until we have a coach who can change that mentality when approaching the crucial play off games. Price has failed so far, he has one more go at it this season. We have to hope, with the pressure of job security lifted from his shoulders, that he can finally get the big prize from an undoubtedly decent squad.

Certain individuals are already showing signs that they are enjoying their RL much more this season & displays back that up - Could a more carefree attitude, from coach and players alike, be the key to finally getting GF success?

We're in a sport with only 3/4 good teams and have consistently had a very talented squad under Price.

There's no way we shouldn't be there or thereabouts every season.

I think we do have an Achilles heel atm. In matches we are conceding silly tries, but our attack is so sharp we can outscore the opposition. It's a style that the players seem to enjoy and the product on the pitch will please KFP, but in a final (or semi) the rules of the game change and both sides tend to become much more defensive with extra effort from the defensive line to cut down the space for the opposition. That is not something teams can replicate every game because of the toll on the players, but for a one off game with a trophy at the end it's worth the extra effort. So chances tend to be much more limited, and you can't afford to make mistakes. It will be interesting to see if we can switch from the current style back to tight defence and a more Aussie ('hunt the error') approach for these games.

As said, it’s consistency. We have a squad good enough to look like we can kill a game off and control a grand final. The thing is, we’ve only won those key play off games and a final when we’ve been the plucky underdog and shocked the opposition with a grind-out win. And when we’re the team expected to win, we buckle (Wembley 2018, SF Cas 2019 and SF Hull 2020).

I’ve never gone into a major knock out game against a top team and thought “we look the business this year”.

Super nice guy though, got us a great cup win and leaves with my best wishes. Time for a change though like in all things.
